Summary: So far I am very happy with my K-X. Such a welcome departure from my point and shoot Nikon. Wow, you press the shutter release and it takes a pic, no waiting.. This is how I remember an SLR. I am still learning the controls on the K-X, but everything seems to be as advertised. It feels great to be back in the SLR world. Pictures are very sharp, I am impressed. Auto focus is better then I expected.
Summary: I have this camera for a few days and very happy with its high ISO and low noise performance. I took pictures while we had a bonfire with NO flash and ISO 6400. Pictures are very usable with very little noise!! Other cameras would give me a lot of colorful dots all over the darker area of the pictures. I wish they can reduce its size so I can fit it into my jacket pocket. I also wish they fix the video "metal" noise issue, with that, video is almost useless.
Update: went dead in the water after 16 months of use. Avoid.

Summary: Update: The original 5-star review I wrote in November 2010 follows below. The revised 1-star review is based on a sudden and total failure of this camera after just 16 months of operation (during which I used it to take around 6500 images). It simply stopped working while I was taking pictures on a clear, calm spring day.
Summary: This is amazing camera the price to feature ratio can not be beat.... I compared to Nikon D5000, Canon T1i, Olympus E620 before making my decision.... this is the best camera hands down... it blows the competition out of the water.. I will attempt to compare this against the legendary Nikon D90... note that Nikon D90 is almost twice the cost of a regular Pentax K-x kit 1) D90 does 3200 ISO, expanded to 6400, K-x does 6400 ISO expanded to 12800.
Summary: This is a fun camera that looks awesome and takes great pictures with the kit lens -- particularly macro shots. It has its quirks though. The camera should not even have Live View on it, because it barely functions and is beyond frustrating. You can make some adjustments so that it functions better, but, really, it is a disappointing feature. I don't know if this is a common problem, but the scroll wheel does not work well -- at least on my camera.
Summary: Ordered this camera as a backup for my K20D and it's full of features unlike other cameras I have used previously by two other major companies. Works great and I actually used it more for the wedding I was doing instead of the K20D. Had lots of questions about the body color and asked if I had it specially customized. I can't say enough about the Pentax K-X. It fits easily into a bag; easy to hold/grip and makes photography enjoyable.
Summary: My new Pentax Kx is the perfect camera for someone new to a DSLR. It has wonderful automatic settings to get me through until I take my upcoming digital photography course at my Community College. I was looking for something that I could add on to while I learn, on my limited budget. The Pentax DSLR cameras will use any lenses made by Pentax since 1952! This means that I can pick up good used lenses at a decent price.
Summary: I bought this camera a few months ago and I'm very satisfied and happy with it, I'm very amateur in photography but I think this was the best choice to start. Pros: I love the small size you can even use it with one hand only, the appearance is very cool, remarkable low-light performance, the price was very reasonable, a lot of nice features. Cons: I found the auto-focus function very slow with the live view mode on. The HD video is noisy in low-light situations.
