STILL Like it more all the time - Nikon guy Buys K-X # 2

Upward Call, Amazon
7 May 2010
  • Summary: Shooting with a borrowed Nikon D40 convinced me it was time to augment my pocket-friendly point and shoot (P&S) with a digital single lens reflex (dslr) APS format camera. My favorite film SLR was a Nikon FM2. Out of habit, I wanted to buy a Nikon DSLR. I tried HARD to buy a new Nikon - D3000 / D5000 / D90. Instead - I bought the Pentax K-X from Amazon. And two weeks later, I bought the K-X -- again. Here is why... (Updated comments added at bottom.) 1.

Red K-x DSLR - 2010 - with info on appearance of Red!!

CGI, Amazon
6 May 2010
  • Summary: Quick note for those considering the red model : the body color is not a deep-rich (marlboro) red or even a brighter-but-stll-rich coca cola red. It is a bright, not fully-saturated red with a slight pinkish tone which becomes more apparent when seen in daylight. It's not bad but maybe the white or orange are cooler : ) The back and side views on the official Pentax site are the most honest - - the other views have been tweaked.

Entry Level?!? Whatever

I. King "Renie", Amazon
5 May 2010
  • Summary: I bought this about two months ago and have been figuring it out ever since. I haven't seriously handled an SLR since the late 80s/early 90s when I had a Minolta Maxxum. Real life and raising a family made me put my passion for photography on the back burner. It's my passion, so I knew I wanted to get into it again, but the prices of the cameras were astronomical for me until I saw this camera. OMG. Okay, so my old Ricoh (70s) and the Minolta were fine cameras.

"Great Camera for its features, performance & price"

madhusudan13, CNET
4 May 2010
  • Pros: This is a fast, easy to use camera with two decent kit lenses (18-55 & 55-300) covering the entire range. Never thought pictures in low light can be so good with a camera I could afford - K-x takes sharp pictures even at ISO 3200 & 6400.
  • Cons: IS is not as good as Panasonic cameras I've used but better than not having it(More expensive cameras from Nikon/Canon do not have IS at all) Note: Firmware update 1.01 eliminates some battery indicator issues which were frustrating initially.

Pentax K-x review

DP Review
2 May 2010
  • Conclusion: I replaced a swag of sony dslr''s with the first of a number of these units, i found it simple to use given i got a japanese instruction book with it not english, a short scroll though the screens and it was set up the way i wanted it and quickly as well. Image straight from the camera is better than anything i have shot previously except for images from kodak point and shoots for color [those great color engines they have].

The Right Upgrade from Point and Shoot to SLR Features

GPS Ready "Pittbacker", Amazon
26 April 2010
  • Summary: After extensive research on the web, I eliminated the Olympus and Canon models in this class and went Pentax, and there is no looking back and I am glad I arrived at the K-x. Without even opening the manual (I will later), I was taking photos with ease - in both auto focus and manual focus modes. Note: I use the camera both for home use and for business use for a Fortune 500 global firm. LIKES: - Image quality and variety (RAW or JPEG). - The hold, the grip, the feel.

Great DSLR for amature

D. Campbell, Amazon
25 April 2010
  • Summary: I love my new camera, the Pentax KX. I use the camera with the accompanying 18-55 mm zoom lens as well as lenses from my old Pentax SLR with great results with each lens. I had resisted making the move to digital for years because I liked the comfort of knowing what I would get with my film SLR camera, but a few years ago I bought a point and shoot digital for my wife; who never felt completely comfortable with my camera.

The best entry level DSLR.....Features comparable to NikkonD90 for half the price

Luv Kashyap "Techie guy", Amazon
23 April 2010
  • Summary: The entry-level DSLR market is flooded with hype, but the 12.4-megapixel Pentax K-x blasts all of the marketing shenanigans away with an overall awesome performance. This K-x, has a superb image quality resided at the core of the camera's existence, whether I shot in JPEG, RAW, or made a 720p HD video.

User Review

Peter Zack, Photography Review
22 April 2010
  • Summary: This is an excellent camera and I can only mirror the comments of the previous review. For the person moving up from a Point and shoot style camera, the controls will seem familiar. For someone that wants the typical DSLR controls, they are all there, including complete manual controls. Excellent low light ability. Good shots at ISO 3200, Usable at 6400 and even 12,800 is decent in a pinch and depending on the scene. Very fast and responsive.
  • Pros: Pros:, Very good and easily understood manual. Although it could use a better index., Easy user interface and menus, Simple and straightforward button layout, Fast shutter mechanism and excellent Fps., Very good AF in most light sources., AWB is greatly improved over previous models. Very good adjustments with indoor light, P-TTL flash metering has improved over earlier models., Low Light image quality at least 2 stops better than earlier versions., Small compact size...
  • Cons: Cons:, Green Button difficult to activate for bigger hands., No AF LED’s in veiwfinder., Menu resets to first page on exit and should reopen on last page viewed., Should have accessory grip available as an option even if only for spares storage., Bright or direct sun makes viewing VF data difficult. Data display could be brighter, Mode dial dents need to be more defined or add K-7 lock to avoid accidental changes, Optical preview should be seperate button and not menu...
