Summary: Received item promply from Adorama. Fit and finish were beyond my expectations for the price of this camera. It has by far the most features of any camera in it's class, including HD video. It is compact but solid, actually a bit heavier than expected. 300 page manual, in small print, makes for a bit of a steep learning curve but Auto Pict mode can get you taking great photos right away. I would prefer more knobs rather than nested menus.
Colorful K-x is a pocket-rocket and not just for beginners!

Summary: The Pentax K-x has become one of the most popular "entry-level" DSLRs for some very good reasons: it has excellent image quality and colors; it is compact without feeling like a toy; the "kit-lens" is actually quite good; and it is easy to use and understand without being restricted or "dumbed down.
Summary: The Pentax K-x is my first DSLR and I am very happy that I chose this over this over the other major brands for various reasons: 1) Great noise reduction (up to 3200 ISO with little noise) 2) I can buy and use older Pentax lenses (I prefer the "A" type cuz they are quality and inexpensive) as well as the new digital ones.
Summary: I have been a Pentax user for as long as I can remember photography. My last Pentax DSLR is a K10D. What an advancement! Quieter shutter, faster focusing, more responsive, much better high ISO image quality, and much more compact. LOWER prices! What a deal! Any downside? If I can think of any, here are some. Materials could be stronger. Metal bottom would be better. Would be better to have a scroll wheel in the front. A great all in all camera.
Excerpt: I have owned the pentax Kx for about 2 years now and I love the thing. This is my first DSLR camera, and the reason I decided to buy one was just to be able to fiddle with more controls. I am not a photographer or anything, I just like to take pictures of family and travels. This camera is great because it is small enough to take just about anywhere.
Excerpt: I am very happy with my K-x. I usually shoot in low light no flash condition and I am very impressed with the results in High ISO settings as compared with what I used to do with my Nikon D-80.
Red K-x DSLR - 2010 - with info on appearance of Red!!
6 May 2010
Summary: Quick note for those considering the red model : the body color is not a deep-rich (marlboro) red or even a brighter-but-stll-rich coca cola red. It is a bright, not fully-saturated red with a slight pinkish tone which becomes more apparent when seen in daylight. It's not bad but maybe the white or orange are cooler : ) The back and side views on the official Pentax site are the most honest - - the other views have been tweaked.
Summary: I bought this about two months ago and have been figuring it out ever since. I haven't seriously handled an SLR since the late 80s/early 90s when I had a Minolta Maxxum. Real life and raising a family made me put my passion for photography on the back burner. It's my passion, so I knew I wanted to get into it again, but the prices of the cameras were astronomical for me until I saw this camera. OMG. Okay, so my old Ricoh (70s) and the Minolta were fine cameras.
Conclusion: I replaced a swag of sony dslr''s with the first of a number of these units, i found it simple to use given i got a japanese instruction book with it not english, a short scroll though the screens and it was set up the way i wanted it and quickly as well. Image straight from the camera is better than anything i have shot previously except for images from kodak point and shoots for color [those great color engines they have].

Cons: No problems encountered after a month of testing and trying.
