As I packed up my K-x review unit, I found myself in two minds as to whether I'd consider buying the camera myself. On the one hand, I could see it being a very useful second body to accompany my K-7 for low-light, high ISO shooting. On the flip side of the coin, for my shooting style I think the lack of AF point illumination would be hard for me to live with, and I'd prefer a lithium-ion-based camera with two control dials. A very impressive DSLR with an excellent feature set and possibly the best high ISO performance in its class. The lack of visible AF points is a frustrating omission, but if you can live with that the K-x is a little cracker, and a bargain too. Read more

Breaking the boring, black D-SLR mold, the colorful Pentax K-x is the least expensive HD-video-capable D-SLR you'll find. And it takes great pictures, too, even in low light. Read more

    • Very solid image quality. Impressive low-light performance. High-definition (720p24) video capture. Fast 4.7 fps burst mode. Available in blue, red, or white.

The Pentax K-x is a worthy competitor for the major manufacturers out there, and is probably in line for the third best with the other smaller camera companies. Since the days of the K10D and the K100D, Pentax has made affordable DSLRs with great form factors, exceptional build quality and superb image quality. The K-x does not stray from that formula. The K-x is a great younger brother to their top-of-the-line K-7, though not without a few flaws. Read more

The Pentax K-x manages to offer plenty of functionality in a small package, and produces images of a high standard. As a beginner's camera it provides plenty to explore, while equally it wouldn't be out of place as backup to a more expensive model, given its portability. The lack of AF-point illumination and the low-resolution LCD screen may put some off, but for such foibles it makes up in other areas such as the impressive focusing system. Read more

    • Plenty of useful features, easy and fun to use, AA batteries available everywhere
    • No illumination of AF points, menu system a little dated, no rubberised thumb-rest

In short, the K-x offers a lot of what made the K-7 one of the most exciting cameras of the year, at less than half the semi-pro camera's price. In one important way—the new 12.4-megapixel sensor from Sony, a variant of the reigning high-ISO APS-C champ—it even outclasses its big brother. It has the features, handling, and build quality to best most of its rivals, especially given its bargain price. Read more

The Pentax K-x is definitely the most eye-catching DSLR for the price. It’s available in such colors as red, white, and navy, which makes this camera more unique. For $599 (including an 18-55mm lens) users also get 720p video and a fast burst shooting rate of 4.7 fps. However, when it comes to image quality, the K-x doesn’t always match similarly priced DSLRs. The lowest-priced video-enabled SLR by a substantial margin, the $650 Pentax K-x still image and video quality won’t impress sophisticated shooters, but consumers will welcome the extensive feature set. I bought this camera right before Christmas 2011. This is my third Pentax Camera but first SLR. I would not consider myself an avid photographer but I do take a lot of pictures especially in during the Summer months. We do a lot of hiking in the Summer so I take a lot of wildlife and scenery photos and felt it was time to upgrade. The camera is very easy to use. Read more or see product

I've been using this camera for two years and very satisfied with it. There's almost nothing bad about this camera considering its price range. The only drawback is its lack of AF point in viewfinder, which I already knew before I got this one. I think of rather having it occasionally when some of my photos' wb are off. Otherwise very little noise even under high ISO and details are retained. Overall I highly recommend this camera. Read more
