Summary: After reading numerous reviews about this camera from assorted sources, I finally acquired one. I was drawn to it based upon its innovative internal image stabilization, making any lens put on it IS. I also liked the idea that almost all Pentax lenses would work with it, even quite old ones, and that it was rated positively for low light performance.
Summary: Ordered this camera from Emmy Photo. The original camera that I was sent had the light meter calibration off by more than 2 stops. Sent back and promptly received a replacement unit. The LED display on this second unit began to fail within a matter of weeks. Emmy will not take back the second camera, so am sending back to Pentax.
Pray you don't break it - you will NOT be able to get parts.

Summary: Great camera and lens kit, but Pentax's parts department is essentially non-existent. I accidentally broke the plastic mount on the 55-300mm lens at one of my daughter's cheer competitions (camera fell from chair). Several places (including Pentax, I think) wanted to charge $300 to repair it, which is basically the cost of the lens (duh).
Didn't mention that battery holder is optional accesory

Summary: FYI this camera does not come with the AA Battery Holder D-DBH109 $39.99. It is an optional accesory. It would have been nice if Amazon showed this AA Battery Holder D-BH109 as a "buy with" accesory item.
Summary: This review was posted for the Pentax K-r with the SMCP-DA 35mm f/2.4 AL lens - same camera, different lens than this offering (sold through ACE Photo). I bought this camera in March 2011 anticipating using it for two upcoming trips (both to Australia). Part way into the first trip in April, the e-dial stopped working. I could only shoot in the auto modes. I sent it in for repair when I returned in May and got it back in about two weeks.
Summary: I hope it is reasonble to assume my experience is the exception. My sample would not focus correctly, not even remotely close. It would not register correct focus with manual focus lenses, either. Image quality was also not up to the strong reviews this camera gets that were reasons for my choice. A good sample would be fun. Handling is very nice, menus easy to navigate and use, feature set extensive. The white color would have been great in the desert sun.
Summary: Updated (09/2011): This camera has been a disaster. Aside from the front focusing issues - the ring at the back stopped working properly after 4-5 months. I sent it for repair and after a week - the ring again stopped working. I have gone through 1SLR, 2DSLR (including a Pentax K200d) and prosumer and many other digital cameras. This is by far the most defective hardware i have ever received. I wish i could just get rid of my entire Pentax gear at this point.
