Summary: Been wanting a DSLR for a while now but couldn't justify the price of some of the other brands. Came across the K-500 when some friends bought a K-50 and got me looking at Pentax. After reading reviews and considering past experience with Pentax Cameras we bought this one...and we are not disappointing in the least. It takes great photos. Period.
Summary: I have used Pentax film cameras for over 25 years and have several lenses from my old cameras that will work on the new K-500. I am still learning about the features of the K-500 and am looking forward to using them so I can't really rate that aspect of it. All of the photos I've made so far have been excellent using the automatic mode. My only complaint is that the shutter button is very sensitive and I may take 2-3 shots when I only want to do one.
Summary: I haven't used an SLR camera since giving up film photography some years ago, but have wanted one for the versatility they afford. Even though they are high quality and well regarded cameras, some reviews I have read about the low end Canon and Nikon models left me concerned. Admittedly, I haven't found the abundance of reviews about the Pentax, but what I have seen contained no negatives so I bought a K-500.
Summary: I looked this one up on dpreview.com and after a great amount of research and deliberation, I decided to buy this camera. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Seriously, this camera is EVERYTHING that I expected and more. Granted that I'm a novice when it comes to photography, but I'm not when it comes to photo editing and such. This camera take s 16 megapixel shots. They are huge and I can do whatever I want with the RAW image.
Summary: Full featured SLR camera with all the functions. 16 megapixels, and you can't beat the price as it comes with two kit lenses which are quite adequate for most amateur photographers. I bought a Sigma 50 mm Macro lens and a ring flash for doing macro photography, and it works great. SLR's are more complex and take time to master, but they are so much more versatile than digital point and shoots. It also takes wonderful movies in low light.
