Pentax K-5

imaging-resource.com
3 June 2011
  • Conclusion: With the launch of the K-7 two years ago, Pentax played to its strengths by creating a digital SLR that was not only feature-rich, but also surprisingly compact for a weather-sealed, magnesium alloy-bodied camera. The K-7 was an important product for the company, providing some truly unique features, and its rugged, coldproof body reinforced Pentax's reputation for catering to the needs of sporty, outdoors types.
  • Pros: Extremely wide ISO range, excellent high ISO performance, one of the best APS-C sensors yet, Very detailed images and very good dynamic range, especially from RAW, 6.5 fps burst mode has very good buffer depths regardless of file type(s), Unusually compact magnesium-alloy body, but still packed with features, Weather, dust, and cold (14°F) resistant, and so is optional portrait / battery grip, Good control placement, surprisingly comfortable grip even for large hands,...

Pentax K-5 review

digitalslrphoto.com
2 February 2011
  • Conclusion: The Pentax K-5 deserves to be a major success as it’s a model with many strengths and few weaknesses. Pentax users looking to upgrade their DSLR won’t have any regrets opting for the K-5. It’s without doubt good enough to compete with rival models and is worth serious consideration by anyone looking for a DSLR in this price point. Its smaller size could prove a major benefit to many and doesn’t hinder its handling at all.

What Digital Camera
14 November 2010
  • Summary: At first glance the K-5 may seem a lot like the K-7. While, in some respects, this is true, it's actually a camera that delivers quite a lot more. Image quality is stunning through a large portion of the ISO range and some of the unique features such as Auto Level Compensation really do add extra value. The fully weather sealed body and WR lenses make for robust use and the 7fps bust mode is great to have.

  • Summary: A sophisticated and keenly-priced DSLR camera with controls and functions for knowledgeable and creative photo enthusiasts. The K-5 replaces the K-7 (from which it has evolved) at the top of Pentax's DLSR range. Pentax K-5 review

Pocket Lint
6 December 2010
  • Excerpt: Pentax’s K-5 DSLR is its new semi-pro model built around the Pentax K-7 top end model. Like that model, the K-5 has a host clever kit for the high-end or advanced amateur including some neat improvements and an excellent overall specification and huge range of compatible Pentax K-mount lenses; its ruggedised body and lens means the K-5 is a very good camera indeed.
  • Pros: Superb image quality with bags of detail, great range of features, particularly Sensitivity priority and Shutter and Aperture Priority modes, body integral Anti-Shake, anti-dust system, build and environment protection, RAW (PEF or DNG) +JPEG mode, excellent screen and 100% optical viewfinder
  • Cons: Some features such as HDR shooting only available in JPEG shooting, slightly soft default images, does not accept SDXC cards, standard 18-55mm lens suffers from magenta and blue fringing

Pentax K-5 Digital SLR Review

ePHOTOzine
23 November 2010
  • Summary: Here Pentax have a camera that is punching very much above its weight. The K-5 can happily take on cameras costing twice as much or more and especially with this fine new sensor will be in a position to challenge any of the APS-C alternatives, at any price. It offers certain critical advantages over the lower priced K-r, such as higher resolution and weather sealing and in terms of value for money is an extraordinary package in the market place as a whole.
  • Pros: Robust and light, Superb colour, Weathersealing, Quality of lenses, Ergonomic design, Value for money, Backwards Compatibility with lenses
  • Cons: Fiddly SD card removal, Limited range of Pentax telephoto lenses

28 December 2012
