Summary: Making the move from film to digital, I had my eye on the Nikon D7100 and the Pentax K3, leaning towards the Pentax. My first SLR was an Asahi Pentax Spotmatic purchased while in the military in the 60's; it's relative compactness and ease of use definitely influenced my buying decision. I have since used other 35 mm' s from Pentax, Nikon/Nikkormat, and for years various Canon EOS bodies.
Summary: Being a Pentax ME-Super owner, with over a thousand dollars invested in optics, I bit on the K-01 offer from Amazon, for $429.00. (Now $399)This offer included two zoom lenses, albeit the plastic kit variety, but was, at worst, a great way to get into a higher quality camera, at a fire sale price. First of all, this camera is not at all photogenic. Almost anything with an APS-C sensor has a better appearance on a web page.
Summary: I agree 100% with the first reviewer- Carlton Garrald. I bought this camera when it was cleared out by Pentax for around $300! Thank you press and critics who helped me had my best camera deal. I sold the kit 40mm lens for around $200. Used the camera with 50mm F1.4 lens I had and with some Super Takumar lenses. If you can stand with two drawbacks- lack of optical viewfinder and the orthodox style of Pentax k-01, this is probably one of the best dslr cameras for 2012.
Love Pentax cameras and this one doesn't disappoint

Summary: Having recently bought a Q7 system with a suite of lenses I really didn't NEED to buy the K-01 and wasn't even aware of this product when I bought the Q7. I had used an older Pentax *ist DL for animation for years and was interested in upgrading to something with more megapixels and video capabilities. I was enjoying the Q7 and while researching cameras for a work project I became interested in the mirrorless category and came across this oddity.
Excerpt: Okay, I have had the "brick" for over 12 months now, and I have shot several thousand images with it. Firstly, why did I buy it? Well the reasons were, I rather like the looks, it is unique, it is different, it would give my K-5 some breathing space on a day to day basis (I always carry a camera with me, even to work), oh and at the time it was a mere £240 brand new when I bought it. So a quarter of the price of my K-5 when I bought that, yet has the same sensor.
Summary: Great photos, plenty of features. The design is nouveau art, but the picture quality rivals any dslr. The two included lenses get you on your way, opening several opportunities for a variety of shots. Pentax offers great value. More features, filters, auto as well as complete manual control if you want it. My only complaint is the focus speed. It is slower than some cameras but otherwise acceptable.
Excerpt: The same 16MP sensor from the K-5 yields excellent IQ. The styling of this mirrorless is very boxy and unique. It is the only ILC that uses lenses from a native SLR/DSLR without having to use an adapter.
Summary: I read reviews on this Camera, they all say its average to good, it takes the best picture with little or no changes by me of any camera I have ever owned, and I have had SLR units from Nikon, Olympus and others. Its also very cool looking, It is quite heavy but I dont mind, its easy to hold and like I said the pics that I get from it are amazing. Highly Recommended if you can still get one.
Summary: I recently purchased the K-01 and I am absolutely happy with it. With a Nikon D7000 sensor in it, it def. gets two thumbs up for being an amazing image maker. So first and foremost, it def. creates amazing images. I have yet to feel that it doesn't keep up with me and my aspirations to create wonderful images. Some of the complaints are: Its design by Marc Newsom… Personally, I love it.
