Excerpt: Bought 645D in January 2014 and immediately tested it in Zion (I shoot landscapes only). Still going through the files but I can say already that the image quality is superb and files are very flexible! Before buying into Pentax 645D I had extensively looked through files from d800e, 7r, p45+/P65+, IQ160 and IQ180 and I could not see any substantial increase in color depth or dynamic range in Phase backs, may be except for IQ180.
Pros: Easy To Use, Good Image Quality, Very good battery life, Very Good Viewfinder, Very quiet shutter
Excerpt: The 645N has more features than most digital cameras, yet is very easy to use. The images are 3D like, and can be easily enlarged on my 36 inch Canon printer. I think Pentax has a real winner for the advanced amateur and the pro. I use my 645N in outdoor photography and am very happy with it.
Pros: Easy To Use, Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Good Image Quality, Good Image Stabilization, High ISO Performance, Large Clear LCD
Summary: I had a Canon 5D Mark 2 before, and I love it. But two weeks ago, I bought a Pentax 645D and a 55mm F2.8, I hardly knew that what is a real good camera. I love it so much. The price is good fits. The most important is image quality, oh my God, that is only thing I can say when I taking pictures with it. I also like the color control, you have many ways to fix your colors, that's cool!
Excerpt: I purchased this camera to make use of the excellent lenses I owned for the previous film version of the 645N. The images with this camera are far superior to any other digital camera I own. One web site compares the quality of 40 megapixels to a 4 x 5 camera. The dynamic range of 12 stops means I can take a photo with sunlight streaming on one side of the image and the other half in shade and reveal detail throughout. It means fill-flash is just not needed.
Pros: Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus, Good Image Quality, High ISO Performance, Large Clear LCD
Summary: I decided to upgrade from the Pentax K5 to the mighty 645D and must say, am pleased beyond all expectations at this purchase. If you are shopping for a larger than full frame, ie medium format camera, you may already know that the Pentax comes in at well under the price point of nearly every competitor. This is attractive.
Excerpt: I REPLACED MY PENTAX 645N FILM CAMERA WITH THE 645D THUS I WAS ABLE TO USE THE SAME LENSES. EVEN WHEN HAND HOLDING THE CAMERA THE IMAGES WERE ULTRA SHARP AND THE COLORS WERE STUNNING. GREAT FOR LANDSCAPES, PORTRAITS, STILL LIFES, FASHION. LOT OF DATA TO WRITE SO DON'T BE IN A HURRY TO TAKE PICTURES.
Pros: Auto Focus, Fast And Accurate, Reliable Operation
Excerpt: Sold all of my Canon gear to buy this camera, and glad I did. The enhanced dyanmic range and larger sensor/files alone were worth the move. There is so much more information to record, and then manipulate. Shoot portraits against a solid or out of focus background and your subjects seem to pop off the page or screen. Everyone who sees landscapes shot with it say "I feel like I'm there.
Summary: I bought this camera just about a year ago after renting one for a weekend try-out. The one I rented didn't come with an instruction book, and the guy behind the counter at ACE Camera in the DC area said to me: "Punch a button, and if the front control dial doesn't do it, the back control dial will." It too me all of 15 minutes to figure out how to use the camera. If you've been using a dSLR for any length of time, then you can figure it out.
Excerpt: This is the first digital medium format camera I have owned. I have progressed in sensor size starting from sub APS-C Sony R1 to and APC-S camera and I still onwn a full frame Sony Alpha 850. I have been through many lenses in my searcrch for image quality. My past film experience saw me using a Mamiya Press (6cm x 9cm), 6x6 TLR and 35mm. There is some of talk about high end FF digital cameras such as the Nikon D800 equalling the Pentax 645d.
