Nice camera for it's size and extreme zoom capability.

Summary: I like this camera but had to return it due to problems. This was purchased as an open box, so I can't complain about the camera itself. I have a large format camera and this was purchased (due to the price) as a glove box camera for emergencies. Nice pictures until Zoomed to the max, where flaws could be seen. As I stated, this was an open box so I can't comment on a "new" item.
Summary: Still using this camera as of 11/21/2013, and still working great. However, it's been eclipsed by newer models (the XS20 that we've since bought) but if you want a good quality camera for a beginner or someone who doesn't need a whole bunch of bells and whistles, this one's for you.
Summary: I love love loved this little camera and it served me well for almost three years. Then it got dust on the sensor. So I learned from YouTube how to take it apart and remove the dust. I congratulated myself on being so handy. Three months later, dust on the sensor again. Fixed it again. Three months later, dust on the sensor again. Groan. I replaced it with a different digital pocket camera from Panasonic. I loved it a lot but it had a fatal flaw.
Summary: So good I now own two. Very sharp pictures and easy to use. Video is nice but acvhd mode required separate program on Mac to convert. I have been using Borosoft conversion software. You don't have to use acvhd as there is another mode for video. It may be that Imovie 11 will read acvhd so check. Anyway, i have gotten also some fairly good macro shots but it takes some playing around to get that right as focusing is sometimes hit or miss.
Summary: the camera itself is a solid digital camera. it's made in japan (not china, like 99% of digital cameras), which was a key factor in my purchase. HOWEVER, panasonic's warranty and customer service are terrible. so be warned: if you purchase this and something goes wrong, you will likely have to pay a ton of money and wait a long time. 8 months after i bought the camera, there was a grey mark in the same place in every picture. my lens was defective.
