Don't Buy this Camera
19 June 2011
Summary: I bought this camera for a trip to India/Nepal. Forget the ultrazoom as the resulting pics look like crap. The camera does not seem to pick up blue skies well, unless a lot of sky is featured in the composition. I then took the camera on a five-month trip to SE Asia. Somehow, dust got inside the lens, so pictures now have "spots" and "hairs" on them. I see that others too complain about the dust and that for $120 one can get it cleaned. It is not worth it.
Summary: This is a great little camera, but don't buy it unless you don't mind having a spot on your pictures. It's compact, takes great pictures, but a few months ago, this spot started showing up on our pictures. In researching on the web, I have discovered this is a common problem with Panasonic. You can take it to a camera shop to be fixed, but many users report it coming back. Apparently dust gets in along the zoom.
Summary: Purchased this to be my primary camera for real estate appraisals. The wide angle, zoom, strong flash and small size were the main things I was searching for. Generally the performance has met my expectations, but there is apparently a design flaw which permits dust to get inside the lens system. Within a few months of use I noticed a speck of dust on an internal lens.
Summary: I purchased a factory-refurbished camera from an Amazon partner and deeply regret it. The image sharpness is totally unacceptable, even with a tripod in bright daylight, for distant scenery. Despite its 12 Million pixels, I have taken much better pictures with 3 Megapixel camera and just as good with a one-megapixel Kodak when digital cameras first came out. I have returned it to Panasonic for a replacement, which (I am told) will also be refurbished.
Be careful, one drop and you'll be shopping for a new camera!

Summary: Loved the camera, great pictures, hd video, features and a huge zoom for a compact camera. Only issue is I dropped the camera once on a wood floor, the zoom got bent and now it won't close or take pictures. Disappointed in the fragile construction of the zoom lens. Took about 50 pics and one drop later I was in Mexico for 10 days without a working camera.
Summary: I'just bought this camera last weekend.and I'decide it return asap after 2 day of testing and radom picture taken..I'was once amazed with the spec of this camera when it just release to the market. but after I'test in person now I'can say it totally useless.. okay, the picture take with 8x zoom len seens to be darker then actual envirment when u'zoom it to 8X, and video optical zooming aint that useful as it sound.
Summary: Like one of the other reviewers said, this camera looks good on paper, but the picture quality doesn't come close to other P&S cameras. I've used Casio and Canon before and they both took good pics. I still have an SD550 (7.1MP) and it takes much better shots than this Panasonic. The noise and lack of sharpness in the panasonic pictures was more than I could handle. If I could, I would post the two pictures I took (one with SD550 and one with DMC-ZR1).
Summary: bought this to replace my Lumix TZ5 because I wanted something similar but smaller and lighter. so I took various identical shots on both and all the indoor or close range shots were much less sharp on the ZX1, had more noise and a slight yellow tinge. Landscapes looked about the same as the TZ5 however, and the audio on the vids sounded clearer (although I don't know if I've damaged the mic on my TZ5 from filming at gigs...
