Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS8 Digital camera

Summary: I loved this camera when I bought it in May 2011. Now, September 2013, I have sent it back to the company and told them do not fix it and do not send it back, but to use it to see if they can improve their product. First, it is a much larger point and shoot camera than others. I had to buy a new camera case for it that was larger. It took fabulous photos.
Summary: After a little over a year of use this camera is falling apart. Dust on the sensor is a constant problem, and this appears to be a known issue, though Panasonic continues to sell these. As soon as the sensor is contaminated, auto focus stops working, requiring a disassembly and a compressed air cleaning of the CCD. It is not long until the contamination returns. There seems to be a direct path for the dust to enter, through the lens assembly.
Summary: I got the ZS8 to replace a ZS3 which was (and still is) a wonderful camera except for a problem that I'll describe with taking videos. One review that I read said that the ZS8 solved this problem. It didn't. First of all let me say that both the ZS3 and the ZS8 are in general very good cameras. They take great pictures most of the time (sharp, good color), are fast in time-between-shots, have a good interface, and an overall good feel when you handle them.
Great pics, easy to use, easily gets dirt inside the lens

Summary: This is my second Panasonic camera. I've only used it a little so far, but so far the pics are great, it's easy to use, and the construction of the camera is as good or better than my earlier Panasonic. I also have a nearly identical predecessor to this camera, a DMC-ZS6, which still works after 2+ years but has dirt inside the lens.
Summary: i own the zs3 and am very happy with the pic quality but when i started using the zs8 side by side i saw that the indoor quality of the zs3 was a lot better with the zs8 producing a crummy low quality picture
After brilliant predecssors, a disappointing camera

Summary: I bought this camera as an upgrade to my Panasonic TZ5, which I absolutely loved. It took amazing pictures for two years, and I had become a fan of Panasonic cameras after also having used, albeit briefly, cameras like the ZS3 and the ZS7. The ZS8 looked much better on paper than all of its predecessors, but I was very disappointed with it in several respects, which ultimately made me return it.
Decent little camera, but fatally crippled by dust issues

Summary: The bad: I've only been using the camera for a month (503 shots so far), and it's got so much dust in the lens and on the sensor that I think I'll try to return it. I've had lots of cameras over the years, and none has shown this kind of susceptibility to dust. I keep it in it's own little pouch, zipped in, clean, and protected, so I feel like I've done due diligence in terms of care. I've seen quite a few other complaints of this nature, too.
Summary: I had read good reviews of the TZ-18 and decided to purchase one. When I downloaded the first lot of pictures that were taken with it to my laptop, I noticed they were really quite grainy (noisy) and generally poor. This was with the "Intelligent auto" setting. I spent a lot of time trying different settings but could not get rid of the graininess. I really wanted to like this camera.
Staub auf der Linse, Pixelbrei und bei wenig Licht traurige Ergebnissen
4 May 2014
