Summary: I have 2 of these Lumix DMC-ZS8 cameras. They take great photos until dust, within less than 6 months show up inside the lens and cannot be removed unless one take apart the camera. Extremely irritating! I sent this camera in knowing that the warranty was expired, but I was willing to pay to get it cleaned if it did not cost too much. The service at the Mcallen, Texas facility for Panasonic was absolutely horrible.
Summary: The "one star" is for Panasonic customer service. The "DMC" line are decent cameras and this is the second one we purchased. The first one lasted four years then stopped working. I figured It just wore out so bought a new DMC-ZS8 which is basically a newer model. This new DMC-ZS8 lasted less than a year before it malfunctioned with a system error. I called Panasonic, had to mail it in to a service center (at my expense) and have been waiting now for a month.
Summary: This was my fourth Panasonic ultra-zoom camera. I wrote an earlier gushing review of the ZS6, and I've even had a couple of photo's in Panasonic's "Focus on Australia" (a competition for Lumix users there - I spend about four months a year working down-under). But this will be my last. I'll switch my loyalty to Canon or Sony. Four months after I got the camera, it developed spots on the sensor.
Summary: After using this camera for about 1 year, dust started to appear in the pictures I took. For what I read it seems it's a problem in the fabrication facility. It only got worst and worst week after week. More spots appear in the pictures I take and it seems that dust already existed inside the cam since before I bought it. DON'T BUY THIS ONE.
Summary: I bought this camera in July 2011 and it takes excellent pictures. Recently it will not connect with the USB cable to my computer. I called Panasonic and they told me it was probably a defective cable. I bought a new one for approximately $10 including shipping. The cable took a week to arrive and it still does not connect to my compouter. I called customer service today and after tryimng for a half an hour it still does not work.
Summary: Google this model to see how many users report dust entering the camera through the extended lens and ruining their photos. Some report bad dealings with warranty coverage. I did not bother trying. Finally the multiple dust blurs became too numerous and I have junked this camera.
Summary: Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS8 14.1 MP Digital Camera with 16x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3.0-Inch LCD (Black) Bought this camera in June, 2011. In November 2011 dark spots started appearing on the image. I sent it in for repair under warranty and received back a refurbished replacement. Five months later in April, 2012 the replacement camera developed the same issue with spots on the image.
Summary: Bought this camera in December 2011. Within a few months there were gray splotches on my photos. In an Internet search I found that others also had the same problem with this camera. I thought perhaps dust got into it so...in July 2012 I bought another camera, same one because when it took clear photos I loved the camera. Within 4 weeks it stopped working.
Summary: This is the fourth Lumix pocket camera that I have owned. I have owned it for about a month. The previous three became useless after apparently receiving slight impacts on the screens while in their cases. All three looked like new till I turned them on and saw the badly distorted screens. I was determined that this cam would not meet the same fate but yesterday when I turned it on, I received a "System Error (Focus)" message on the screen.
