Best nighttime and point and shoot camera. Love it!
4 January 2014
Summary: I had an older model of this same camera and loved it. This camera is awesome..takes great pictures in the night time setting (never ever did I have any camera that took great pictures at night)..I ended up with this model as I still had 2 newer batteries for my older model. I knew that I liked the panasonic with the lumix lens, so I just checked out which model still used the lumix batteries and wall charger that I still had.
Great photos until dust show up inside lens; very horrible service! Do not buy.

Summary: I have 2 of these Lumix DMC-ZS8 cameras. They take great photos until dust, within less than 6 months show up inside the lens and cannot be removed unless one take apart the camera. Extremely irritating! I sent this camera in knowing that the warranty was expired, but I was willing to pay to get it cleaned if it did not cost too much. The service at the Mcallen, Texas facility for Panasonic was absolutely horrible.
Summary: The "one star" is for Panasonic customer service. The "DMC" line are decent cameras and this is the second one we purchased. The first one lasted four years then stopped working. I figured It just wore out so bought a new DMC-ZS8 which is basically a newer model. This new DMC-ZS8 lasted less than a year before it malfunctioned with a system error. I called Panasonic, had to mail it in to a service center (at my expense) and have been waiting now for a month.
Summary: I loved this camera when I bought it in May 2011. Now, September 2013, I have sent it back to the company and told them do not fix it and do not send it back, but to use it to see if they can improve their product. First, it is a much larger point and shoot camera than others. I had to buy a new camera case for it that was larger. It took fabulous photos.
Summary: This was my fourth Panasonic ultra-zoom camera. I wrote an earlier gushing review of the ZS6, and I've even had a couple of photo's in Panasonic's "Focus on Australia" (a competition for Lumix users there - I spend about four months a year working down-under). But this will be my last. I'll switch my loyalty to Canon or Sony. Four months after I got the camera, it developed spots on the sensor.
Summary: After using this camera for about 1 year, dust started to appear in the pictures I took. For what I read it seems it's a problem in the fabrication facility. It only got worst and worst week after week. More spots appear in the pictures I take and it seems that dust already existed inside the cam since before I bought it. DON'T BUY THIS ONE.
Summary: I bought this for a family member who lost the one I gave her last year. I bought last year's camera on ebay as well. She liked the one I had. It is an easy camera to use and is still very compact. It also has a good zoom.
Summary: I wanted a small lightweight, REALLY GOOD CAMERA. For some time I have liked Panasonic products. They tend to be well made, logical and user-friendly in design, having clear and understandable manuals. I read lots of comments by users for this and other cameras of this size. I haven't had a chance to explore all the possible settings yet. The results of simple, let the camera figure it out shots are fine, sharp, excellent. The zoom works.
