Summary: Given as a gift and our daughter loves it. Not larger than an iPhone so she can carry it all of the time and use it quickly. Lot's of functions for the beginner or the weekend shooter. As always I can trust the Lumix to deliver.
Summary: Obviously there is going to be a bit of trade-off when it comes to compact cameras. The great advantage with this camera is that it will truly fit into your pocket comfortably (even with fairly tight pants on), it has a nice alloy build, it looks great, and it takes reasonably good pictures. For what it is (you wouldn't expect DSLR quality images from this camera), it is a steal.
Summary: This camera met all my expectations--simple to use, extremely lightweight and compact, and fairly high-quality images, at least to my untrained eye. It's gotten compliments when I've asked strangers to take a picture (not that that should be a high priority when choosing a camera). I haven't had any difficulty using the buttons, though they are pretty tiny.
Summary: Camera was a purchased for a person with zero experience in photography. Set camera to it's auto mode and away she went, taking hundreds of photos. Could not be happier with the results! Every photo, no matter the conditions, has come perfectly exposed and focused. Camera will likely never be used to its full potential with all its modes and features, it's doing exactly what it was purchased for. Great little camera!!
Summary: The Panasonic Lumix XS-1 is probably the best ultra compact digital camera currently available. It is far and away a better performer than it's rival the Nikon SO1. The intelligent auto mode makes it almost impossible to take a bad photo. Even photos taken in low light conditions are better than average. While the video is 720p HD, it's not much better than standard definition but for short clips it's fine.
