Excerpt: The TZ5 is one of my first cameras from Panasonic. The thing that most attracted me to it was the 10x zoom and more importantly, the HD Capability. HD was not that big yet back 3-4 years ago. When this camera came out, I told myself this would be a perfect beginner camera for all those planned trips. I took it with me to several occasions and overall, I have to say my opinion on it is mixed. The camera has 10x zoom which is very rare at the time in a pocketable...
Summary: I got this camera to use instead of my SLR when it was inconvenient to drag along all of the SLR stuff. It takes great pictures as long as nothing is moving. The lag time is so slow (maybe I'm spoiled by the SLR), that I've missed a lot of photos. Also, with no manual controls, it is sometimes very hard to focus on the right subject.
Pros: Bright LCD, Comfortable Controls, Easy Setup, Easy to Keep Clean, Easy To Use, Great Picture Quality, Strong Construction
Summary: This is a great camera. Small, fast, takes great pictures. The auto Intelligence setting works surprisingly well in all situations. Main reason I bought this was for the HD video (1280x720). Video quality is really good and the stabilization makes this a great little video camera for capturing family memories.
Pros: AutoIntelligence Setting, Comfortable Controls, Easy Setup, Easy To Use, LARGE LCD, Small Lightweight
Summary: The Panasonic Lumix TZ5 has been a heavily marketed camera. As a designer, I end up buying a lot of cameras, and was eagerly waiting to get my hands on this model after reading many positive reviews. My initial reaction to the TZ5 was good, as the camera felt solid with its all metal body. However, some of the controls feel a little fiddly, and I found them to be somewhat awkwardly placed.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5: A good easy to use camera
19 August 2008
Summary: This is a very useful and effective digital camera. The colours of the pictures taken are great quality; bright and easy to see. It is a camera that is also very easy to use, the camera functions are easy to find, and after about a day or two of using it you know what you can achieve with it.
Pros: It has a great optical zoom and many different photographic options.
Cons: The pictures often come out dark and you may need to use a tripod for some settings.
