Beware of easy Zoom errors
2 June 2011
Summary: The Panasonic Lumix DSC7 is what anyone can hope for in a digital camera. I had been a religious Canon camera user previously, but after being fed up with the limitations on the zoom (Canon 4x vs. Panasonic 12x), I decided to purchase a Panasonic Lumix. I am an avid backpacker, and wanted something that could really capture the beauty of the great outdoors, during the day and at night.
Summary: I had a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ4S 8.1MP Digital Camera with 10x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver) whose lens cover stopped working. Prior to that the pictures it took, in all conditions, were really good. I replaced it with the ZS7 hoping to have the same, if not better, picture quality. That has not been the case. Has the same great Leica lens as the older model but images are a little more distorted or pixelated on the ZS7.
Summary: Pros: Excellent quality photos/images. Easy to use. Compact. Numerous useful features -- see product description above. Cons: Some Panasonic cameras defective. Panasonic will try to 'extort' money for repair. I have used this camera for several months for nature photography. The reports of excellent quality photos and the location (longitude/latitude) embedded into the digital photos drew me to the camera.
Summary: I bought this camera after reading all the positive reviews. I was replacing a 5 year old Canon SD550 which I really liked, but broke after a fall. I returned this camera for the following reasons: - Battery life is so-so. I purchased 2 batteries, but who wants to worry about multiple batteries on a vacation day with the family?
Summary: Picked it up from Amazon almost three months ago. The camera is great when it works. Low light not as good as it could be but not a big problem for me. HD video looks great. After about 5 weeks it stopped recognizing SD cards (tried four different cards). Got the replacement from Panasonic and same problem after only three weeks of use. I am waiting for my second replacement hopefully it will work.
Summary: I've had a Lumix DMC TZ5 for almost two years and it is a wonderful camera and shoots amazing video. The lens got scratched so I needed a replacement or repair, problem is that I was in Croatia and the warranty was running out. Long story but I bought a new camera(DMC ZS7) through Amazon and sent it to a friend in the US who brought it over here to Europe and took my old camera back. So far the new camera(ZS7) is not the newest latest greatest.
Excerpt: I bought this camera just before a trip abroad: I was pretty happy with using the camera and taking photos, other than the fact that I didn't find the user interface very intuitive, for several reasons (strange way of switching stills to video, not obvious how to adjust aperture or shutter speed in manual modes, bizarre re-use of keys). However, I was shocked when I got home and plugged the camera into my Mac.
Summary: Upgraded to this Panasonic TZ10 from the TZ8. Pics are great. Unfortunately, after a couple weeks in the Caribbean the zoom gets stuck. Says 'System Error' and to turn camera on and off.....becomes irritating after a while. After much 'on and off' it all seemed normal....that was until I used camera in Italy...same Zoom Error problem...Zoom freezes. Not happy. Is it the camera or is it just my purchase that cannot take the heat??? Too late past Return Date..
Summary: I bought this camera after much research and largely on the strength of the reviews on this website. I needed a pocket camera with a decent zoom and the ability to take decent pictures. I must confess however I was disappointed with the results. In particular the low light performance was very poor (even the not so low light performance was lacklustre). I bought the camera as I was attending several functions and was asked to share my pictures.
