I think this is a low quality product and I can argue it because of the following situations:

JOSE ARTURO GOMEZ VELASQUEZ, Amazon
29 January 2013
  • Summary: I think this is a low quality product and I can argue it because of the following situations: Before the expiration of the warranty, the camera failed and we had to sent it from COLOMBIA to USA IN ORDER TO MAKE EFFECTIVE OUR CAMERA WARRANTY AND THE CASE WAS REGISTER AT PANASONIC, LIKE THIS: 1) warranty for PANASONIC request, before the first year: CAMERA'S PROBLEM INFORMATION. Case No.

Broken right after the warranty expired

kottobahn, CNET
13 June 2012
  • Summary: I purchased this camera from Costco for a reasonable price after comparing several different manufacturers and deciding this was the superior choice. The camera took great pictures and was easy to use. I was very happy with it. At my daughter's graduation the camera's lense began to stop functioning. I could hear the motor turning and trying to retract and extend the lense but the lense wouldn't respond.
  • Pros: Great pictures, lots of features, easy to use
  • Cons: battery life. The lense failed to retract after shut down and would not focus or zoom a couple of months after the warranty expired.

Poor Quality Camera

Hamdi El-Sissi, Amazon
14 August 2011
  • Summary: I bought this Camera in Dec. 2010 from Amazon. The picture quality in normal indoor light conditions is very poor. After six month of limited use, the camera died {System Error (Focus)] after a trip to the sea side. I have read about this problem before I bought the camera and did not put much credence in it as a Japanese manufacture would not be that sloppy. Sure enough, it is a poor quality design.

Totally Lacking Where It Really Counts

PAJOMA, Amazon
28 November 2010
  • Summary: This camera is loaded with lots of great features and is overall pretty easy to use, but I found the picture quality very disappointing. I am a professional photographer and wanted a good compact camera for the family to carry around and use and decided this would even satisfy me when I needed to use it too. We used it for 4 weeks and took over 1000 photos and I had plenty of either totally out of focus or just not sharp photos.

Bad Design

R. Nykster "Rob", Amazon
19 September 2010
  • Summary: I made the mistake of giving Panasonic a second chance. My first panasonic camera stopped working because of a drop of sweat. My new DMC-ZS7 automatic lens shutter won't open or close anymore. The spring or something broke. I notice there are LOTS of people having problems with this lens cover on the camera. When the automotive industry puts out a product with a part that is bad, they replace it.

Don't buy this camera

Rickinmn "RickinMN", Amazon
20 August 2010
  • Summary: This camera takes wonderful pictures. But Panasonic has not been honest in describing the GPS function. You cannot turn off the GPS. It ALWAYS drains the battery, even with the GPS turned OFF and the camera turned OFF. Plan on a dead battery within a week of charging--even if you haven't used the camera. Panasonic has a simple solution for the problem--remove the battery from the camera every time you're done shooting.

Superb camera -- but don't buy it!

Tom Newby, Amazon
17 August 2010
  • Summary: I have had three cameras in this series, going back several years. I have loved them all. Great cameras, each better than the one before, and I figured I would be buying nothing else but Panasonic cameras in the future. BUT -- Panasonic just started using something they call an "ID secured" battery. The upshot of that is, no aftermarket batteries can be used in it -- only the wildly overpriced Panasonic brand.

Shutter Lag Kills the Camera

Amazon Customer, Amazon
9 July 2010
  • Summary: After reading reviews, CNET I bought this camera primarily for taking point and shoot pictures of my 10 month old baby and everyday life. Anyone who has kids knows that you have a nano-second to capture the little smirk, twinkle in their eye, and those priceless two-tooth grins. Sadly, this camera does not deliver. I'm returning it within 24 hours of buying it. (even though the lens and zoom are amazing!) Here's what I would have loved to know before buying it: 1.

Great camera until...

Mrs. Valerie Campbell, Amazon
22 February 2013
  • Summary: When I got this for Christmas 2010 I loved it and I've enjoyed it. The photos were sharp, and it was easy to use both for stills and action shots. That is up until September last year when some dust got onto the sensor and started to ruin the photos. Since then I've done research and it seems to be a problem with this camera. It's caused by the lens going in and out and the dust gets sucked in so I'm assuming it's a design fault with this particular model.

Excellent - when it works and if kept spotlessly clean - UPDATED review

P. K. Preston, Amazon
15 September 2012
  • Summary: I'm a keen photographer and am very fussy about my cameras so when I buy a point & shoot camera to supplement my dSLR collection, I make sure I get something that is going to do everything I need and be reliable as well. I first bought he TZ8 and was delighted with it until it failed with a "FOCUS ERROR". After a little research I discovered that its not an uncommon error on the TZ.
