Summary: Camera screen started flickering after about 3 months of regular use. All instructions on ensuring watertight integrity were followed precisely including a thorough freshwater cleaning after each use. I tried talking to Panasonic and they were unable to help. Picture quality is awesome...when I can get it to work properly.
Still looking for a quality point-and-shoot waterproof camera
14 September 2014
Summary: This is my third waterproof camera. This one has served me well with waterproof abilities in shallow water but really lacks photo quality. The photos (in all types of light) tend to be very blotchy and grainy when zoomed up. I like big prints so this just won't cut it. The focus on this camera is also finicky. If you're taking quick pictures you must slow down and ensure that focus has locked or you'll end up with a fuzzy photo.
Summary: Bought the camera pre-Hawaii. Snorkeled in less than 15' of water for no more than an hour at a time. Did not open the camera door unless I was back at the condo. I was extremely meticulous about making sure it was sealed and free of debris. I was more meticulous than the usual person would be. Worked for a while in the water then it started doing goofy stuff like the LCD blinking and while in movie mode, it was fluttery. Obviously that was from the water leaking in.
Pros: Compact, Easy to use, Convenient, great pictures
Cons: Did not meet expectations, leakd on first use
Waterproof failed after a couple uses 2nd day of Mayan Riviera trip
J. Solberg, Amazon
11 May 2014
Summary: this camera definitely takes excellent video and photos underwater, while it remains waterproof. I tested it in the bathtub (OK, admit it, you would too when you bring it home for the first time)then I took about five minutes of incredible video of trout in the river during a fly-fishing trip in the Rockies, then off to the Mayan Riviera, where it failed the second time i took it into the water. I followed directions to the letter regarding care, but poof.
Summary: None of the tough/waterproof point and shoot cameras on the market today offer standout performance; each one has compromises. Here are some of the key points for the TS5. 1. Great intelligent auto mode - the iA mode is truly adept at selecting the right scene mode for the situation. 2. Heavy handed noise reduction - all these tough/waterproof cameras seem to have strong noise reduction algorithms, but the TS5 seems to have the heaviest of the bunch.
Summary: Beware of abysmal customer service from Panasonic. For many years, I have purchased digital cameras. etc. including this one but unfortunately, for my future purchases I will mostly exclude Panasonic from my research just because of their customer support. The same time I bought this camera (Lunix DMC-TS5A) from Amazon. I purchased a ZS30 camera directly from Panasonic since the model wasn't available at the time on Amazon.
Poor Customer Service for comparatively expensive camera
19 August 2013
Summary: This is my third Panasonic camera. I've owned this camera for about 6 weeks and taken it on one extended trip. The camera has never been dropped or used outside of its stated design parameters. Despite my careful handling of this camera the top button on the dpad has become stuck, and no longer functions correctly. I contacted customer support, and was told I would have to pay to send it in for repair, and that the repair process would likely take over 2 weeks.
Clicking noise during video recording easily reproduced
2 August 2013
Summary: UPDATED: so i received a replacement camera from Amazon and the clicking noise is still there, easily reproduced as stated below, but the noise is slightly less and more muffled. The first camera noise was more like flicking a glass noise and this new camera is more like tapping fingers on a wood desk. Again in 1080p MP4 mode 30fps the noise is barely noticeable but in 1080p AVCHD 60fps it is very loud, especially when filming in low light conditions.
Summary: wifi works great and good battery life. picture and video quality were not as good as my sony tx100. also as stated here in another review the onboard mics pick up constant grinding from the autofocus
Summary: I was really excited when I received the camera yesterday. I played with a lot of the features of the camera. Had a little difficulty getting it to sync with my Iphone 4 but not too bad. All was fine until I recorded a 10 second clip of my daughter. I played it back to my wife to show her how good the video looked. For three times during that 10 seconds there is a very noticeable clicking noise during playback.
