Summary: My wife had damaged her much-prized Leica, which meant that we didn't have a camera capable of long telephoto shots. (We like photographing animals and birds.) Leica have stopped marketing the V-LUX 40, apparently because it has been found to be vulnerable to accidental damage of the telephoto.)
Summary: Really easy to use camera with lots of tricks to take some really good shots. A little bulkier than the compact cameras I have used previously so requires a new carry case. The viewfinder is great when you can't see the LCD screen.
Perfectly capable super zoom. A bargain at the current circa £200 price.

Summary: A very useful and configurable all purpose camera. Goes from an extra wide 20mm equivalent to 1200mm. No real vices that I can find and as long as you do not imagine you are getting a large sensor camera it does very well.
Summary: I bought this for my husband's birthday last month based on the positive reviews on this site and I am really happy with it. We haven't had much chance to use it yet but he is delighted with the quality and ease of use.
Summary: Bought this camera as an upgrade to my Fuji HS 20 EXR and boy was I impressed with it's performance, very fast start and zoom great 60x zoom that even without a tripod can be great just zoom out a little slower.
Summary: Finally an upgrade from a mobile phone camera. RAW shooting, full PASM controls, insane zoom (the stabilization at full zoom is incredible) and an excellent microphone for (sadly only 25fps) videos too.
Summary: brilliant camera which takes great clear shots. The auto feature is so good you can just leave it and let the camera decide. Nice weight to it and easy to hold. The only downside is that the batter lid is not spring loaded like previous versions which makes it slightly fiddlier to load the battery...
