The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 represents a fairly minor upgrade over its predecessor, but given that was our favourite super-zoom of 2007, the new model has a great deal going for it. So with the FZ28 you get a compact, lightweight super-zoom camera with 10 Megapixel resolution, a huge 18x optically-stabilised range, HD video recording in the 720p format, support for RAW files, a mid-sized, but good-looking 2.7in screen, manual controls and one of the best fully automatic... Superzoom cameras are an attractive choice for those looking for a smaller, cheaper option than a DSLR, and in many cases they offer a decent alternative. There’s been a flood of them recently with most of the major manufacturers releasing new models. With so much competition, though, each new superzoom needs to offer something unique, and while they all share many commonalities, they also boast their own unique special features to satisfy a particular niche. Reviewers say the 10.1-megapixel, 18x zoom Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 (*Est. $340) is among the best choices for ultra-zoom digital cameras, given its features, image quality, shutter speed, 13-ounce size and affordable price tag. While more versatile cameras with longer zoom lenses are available, experts say 18x is plenty. Read more

  1. Great Camera!

Since other reviewers have gone into better technical detail about this camera, I'll skip that. I was looking for a good "bridge" camera, something better than a point and shoot but not yet a DSLR because honestly I didn't want to fiddle with lenses and so many manual settings. I researched for a month before I settled on this one, and my research paid off! I have owned this camera now for 2 years and I could not be happier. Read more

I use this camera to photo my two young children both inside and outside in a variety of lighting situations. As a "just learning" photographer, I rely on the intelligent auto mode most of the time, but am exploring the other modes as I can (sunset, sport, and baby are my current favs). Tremendous upgrade over my Kodak Easyshare from 5 years ago! The flash requires popping up, which I don't mind because it is rarely used. The HD videos are just awesome! Read more

I have only had this camera about 3 or 4 weeks but already have taken great pictures with it. Still learning. Macro flower pictures were beautiful. Used it for my grandchildrens' baseball playoff games this week and the camera caught the flight of the ball being pitched. Simply Amazing! BTW We're #1 as is this camera. Read more

Previous questions about this product

  • Why not make a DSLR out of the idea of a superzoom?

I just bought this guy, but why don't they make a DSLR with an attached lens like this one. Basically what I mean is integrate a larger sensor and make the camera larger but include this amazing lens?

    Answered by rconsonni 2009-08-11:

If you try to attach a larger sensor to a lens like this, you'll need a bigger and (a lot) heavier camera body. That's the reason they don't make a camera like this. Besides, it would cost a lot

  • Loosing Pictures!

Hi. Why do I loose pictures from my camera. It's happened twice now. 1st time was my son 1st xmas and the 2nd time was his first snow. Getting really peed off with this camera. It dosen't delete all the pics but pics taken between dates. I know I didn't delete any. Is there something else I'm doing wrong?

    Answered by ellandry 2009-04-20:

It could be the SDcard going bad, I had this happen with another camera. I would recommend scanning it with DiskInternals Flash Recovery http://www.diskinternals.com/flash-recovery/ I love it and it helped me recover over 200 pictures from a vacation when the SDcard bit the dust. I bought the license it worked so well.

  • Noise on my Pics

Hi, I bought the DMC FZ28 on holidays lately but seen to always getting blurred pics. Can someone advise me on the best setup for taking pics of my kids that don't seem to stand still. Thanks from a novice

    Answered by stefan 2009-01-09:

Hi, Try using a higher ISO setting but not too high and have faster shutter

    Answered by Nature 2009-08-15:

One way to ensure your camera is completely still during photo shots is to invest in a remote release device. These will vary from camera to camera but most have some sort of accessory made for them. The other way of taking shots without touching your camera is to use the self timer.
