Excerpt: In spite of bed reviews, this camera has performed flawlessly during a two weeks snorkelling trip The files posses good latitude for post processing, and the results have nothing to complain about. No leakage problems: I think that the cutsomesr that grumblw here just have not paid enough attention to shutting the "door" with a firm click.
Great images but mind the noise - the hammering noise!

Conclusion: I bought the FT4 about 4 hours ago and have taken some 240 pictures and a few videos at late afternoon, twilight, in the dark and indoors and I think that it exceeds my expectations with one exception - the hammering noise when recording video (and it's bad!). Good news is that I've figured out the what, why and when of it, so I can work around it, but it remains one of the biggest engineering oversights I've ever seen in a camera.

A bargain at current prices, but don't expect miracles

Summary: I ordered this, as my 3rd camera, for holidays where water sports are involved and was not disappointed. My other cameras are a Canon S90 and a Canon 40D SLR, this is my first Panasonic. It takes great photos in good light. With such a tiny sensor your creative options are fairly limited, but it does the job for holiday snaps. But really I bought it for beach and underwater use.
...with medium quality picture but specially constructed camera

Summary: Advantages: waterproof, GPS, shockproof, Leica, Panasonic. Many features and menus, manual modes. Quick response and shooting. Nice menus. Light. Small. Rather Poor image quality like a cheaper pocket. I don't "feel" the sensor's mb analysis... Small buttons. Rather hard to press especially with gloves. Small and not quite good LCD.
Summary: I bought this specifically to take in the ocean, both snorkelling and shallow diving to around ten metres. I must say that I'm impressed with the robustness of it, although I managed to get some light scratches on the LCD screen (not sure how) so maybe adding a stick-on screen protector there may be a good idea. I also bought a fast 16GB memory card so I 'd have plenty of space for underwater movies.
Versatile and good quality robust camera, but don't expect much from the time-lapse feature

Summary: I am pretty impressed with this camera, but it is early days for me with it, and I will try to remember to update this review after a little more experience. My initial opinion is that it is a well-built and strong camera and will indeed stand up to more than normal rough treatment. I have tried it on my bike and it withstood lots of juddering whilst taking video happily. I have used it indoors and outdoors and the results are definitely impressive.
Summary: Tough cameras are great fun. I've had a few cheap ones but the picture quality is always poor, especially indoors or with flash. So I spent more than usual on this one. Picture quality is good but indoor images are still not as good as a decent compact film camera in my opinion. Video quality is good too. Amazingly the camera came back from holiday with water in it but after a week of being left open with the battery out its come back to life.
