Summary: I really like this little camera. The reason I bought it was for the sole purpose of doing very close up pix particularly of creatures in rockpools. So it had to be able to go to almost touching the subject and withstand being underwater - it does both. So many of the cameras I looked at claimed to have a good macro element but this one really does. Have also been using it for general use - so easy just to slip in a pocket rather than taking a larger Nikon out.
Summary: I followed the instructions regarding the seal religiously and thankfully the waterproofing worked fine. Sometimes when I opened it there were tiny drops of water but apparently that is normal and you just leave it open for a while to dry out. I took many many photos (snorkelling at the Red Sea, Egypt) most of which were pretty bad but definitely some good ones.
Summary: Panasonic Lumix is generally a very reliable brand of camera, this being my third - and I'd hesitate now to buy another brand for myself. They take a good quality picture and often have features beyond those of equivalent compacts from other brands, in my experience. It's true they aren't always the cheapest, but when I'm buying an expensive one-off item like a camera I think scrimping too much is a false economy.
Summary: Bought as apresent and given to them the day before they left.for their honeymoon. No English instruction booklet (nine other language booklets in box) but they are pleased with the resulting pictures after navigating around the menus.
