The auto focus and a start-up time of 0.95 seconds, gives the FP8 a fast response time from power on to image capture. The iA feature now includes POWER Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) which has double the repression power compared to the previous image stabilization system, MEGA O.I.S. The hand-shake generated when pressing the shutter button, or when shooting at night with a slow shutter speed, is minimized by the POWER O.I.S. to help reduce blurry photos.
The FP8 features blue LED cursor buttons that glow when pressed. It also features a 2.7-inch large LCD that provides users a dynamic view of the scenes and subjects being photographed; Face Recognition mode where up to three people can be simultaneously recognized to show their names on the monitor once registered; image processing LSI, Venus Engine V is an energy saving functions that allows users to take approximately 380 pictures with one battery charge; HD Movies with VIERA Link Networking that allows users to record HD motion pictures in 1280 x 720p at 30 fps, in addition to WVGA (848 x 480) and normal VGA (640 x 480). With HD component output capability, the user can watch photos and video in HD quality by connecting the camera to a television via an optional component cable (DMW-HDC2); 27 Scene Modes; High Dynamic mode which helps to capture a scene with moderate exposure, even though the scene may contain both bright and dark areas together; and PHOTOfunSTUDIO 4.0 software which allows users to view, edit and archive captured photos and videos. The LUMIX DMC-FP8 is available at a retail price of $299.95 and is available in September 2009 in black, red and silver.
See lessWhen I reviewed the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX35 back in March 2008 I was impressed enough with that camera's overall performance to buy one for my sister. Takes pictures extremely fast. Can take a picture within ~1-2 seconds of turning the camera on. Consecutive pictures come very quickly, even when charging the flash. One of the few point and shoot camera's that will allow you to zoom in and out while shooting 720P video. I used to buy Canon camera's exclusively, but I wanted to start shooting quick video clips of my kids, so I was specifically looking for a great point and shoot that takes acceptable video. I purchased this camera to replace a 8.0 megapixel Panasonic Lumix camera that I lost in Mexico and really liked to use. The Lumix F8 is a well built camera in a convenient form factor. The camera starts up in less than 1.0 seconds so you can catch those unexpected photo opportunities. With shutter speeds up to 1/1600 you can stop motion. If you've always wanted to capture night shots with your digital camera you can with the Lumix F8. Using a tripod this camera will... Read more
