The Panasonic DMC-FP1 is a 12.1 megapixel digital camera that houses a 2.7 inch LCD display, ability to record 16:9 HD (high-definition) photos that is compatible with a wide-screen HDTV for full-screen viewing, an SDHD/SD memory card slot that is VIERA HDTV (VIERA Image Viewer) compatible, HD movie recording in 1280 x 720p resolution at 30 fps, as well as WVGA (848 x 480) and normal VGA (640 x 480) recording. Users can also upload their videos directly online YouTube with the included software PHOTOfunSTUDIO ver.5.0. The camera also features 4x optical zoom Lumix DC Lens folded optics constructed with 11 elements and a prism unit in 10 groups, including an ED lens and 4 aspherical lenses with 7 aspherical surfaces. The camera is powered by a battery that provides up to 300 shots (CIPA) per a single charge. It is available in silver, black, red, gray, orange, blue, pink and green color options.

Features

The DMC-FP1 also features Extra Optical Zoom function which provides additional magnification, extending the zoom power to 7.8x (273mm) by using the centre part of the high resolution CCD. It also features image-processing LSI, Venus Engine IV which is an advanced signal processing technology for rendering images. Other features on the camera includes a shutter release time lag of approximately 0.006` second for capturing sudden, spur-of-the-moment photo opportunities, AF (auto focus) function that lets users lock on the subject minimum 0.33 second, a start-up time of approximately 0.96 second, and up to ISO 6400 sensitivity to capture subjects in near-total darkness without using a flash.. The DMC-FP1 also has Intelligent Auto mode as well as MEGA O.I.S. which reduces hand-shake and Intelligent ISO control that prevents moving subjects from being blurred. This is done by optimizing the shutter speed and ISO setting, to render sharp images in any shooting situation. It also features Face Detection, red-eye reduction, Intelligent Scene Selector, which automatically selects from 6 scene modes - Macro, Portrait, Scenery, Night Portrait, Night Scenery and Sunset to suit shooting conditions; Quick AF system that allows the camera to keep focus on the subject while the camera is in recording mode before pressing the shutter button halfway; and Macro Zoom function where users can pull subjects closer with the wide-angle setting by using 3x digital zoom, and capture close-ups. The DMC-FP1 is compatible with SD format SDXC (SD eXtended Capacity) with optimized capacity and data transfer speed. The camera is also compatible with Windows 7™ and is available in February 2009.
