Excerpt: I'm very happy with the camera. It takes great pictures but where it really shines is the optical zoom. Ten times optical zoom. When I first purchased this camera in 2006, there was no other camera with that type of option in such a small package. With the intense zoon, you are able to capture moments from a distance that very few cameras can. At weddings, I can zoom into the bride and groom's face and see how they are reacting. At sporting events, I can catch the...
Excerpt: The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 is a great digital camera with a whopping 10x optical zoom. For a camera this size 112 x 58.1 x 40.2 mm (4.41 x 2.29 x 1.58 in, the optical zoom is a major selling factor. The digital zoom is 4x which makes the total magnification 40x. I typically do not use the digital zoom as a criteria for choosing a digital camera because the optical zoom gives a clear image, whereas the digital zoom makes the image somewhat grainy.
Excerpt: Mine has one problem. After turning it on, in order for the picture to focus, I need to zoom in a little (a big problem if you ask random stander-bys to take a picture, have to give special instructions). However, my friend's camera (same model, TZ1) doesn't have this problem, so it doesn't seem to be happening on every camera. Otherwise, the picture quality is pretty good for a budget point-and-shoot. The 10x optimal zoom is great for somewhat long-distance shooting.
Need the simplicity of the Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ1.

Excerpt: Being a relatively newcomer to the world of digital photography I needed something idiot proof! I found it in the Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ1. I hate to read instruction booklets but found the one with this camera very understandable for the novice. My husband and I love to be outdoors. Hiking in the mountains or walking on the beach brings me great opportunities to use this camera. I love the compact size as I hate to carry extra gear.
Excerpt: I agree that it is not very fast to respond, but the image stabilizer is fantastic. This camera is great for nature trips where you don't want to carry a normal size SLR!!The below picture was taken on a very windy day at the 12x setting without a tripod or other support. I was standing on a sand dune, so I was a little unstable as well.
Summary: I bought this camera a few years back, back when it was still being produced. Through heavy research I decided it looked like the one for me, and haven't ever, not to this day after thousands of pictures, been disappointed much by it. Still viable as a point-and-shoot for day-to-day applications; it takes pictures that look quite good on a computer screen, even as a desktop on a modern monitor, though that is near its resolution limit and noise becomes visible but not...
Summary: I bought a TZ1S in 2007 and used it for three years. For no obviouos reason it quit working. So I replaced it with a $68 used version. My local camera repairman doesn't think much of these cameras, but I've made excellent photographs with them.
Summary: This Camera is Certaintly not the "Low Light KIng of Compact Digit Cameras. HOwever, relating back to my title, Got Light? Well if you have Light shinning on your Subject or Background, then you can get Pretty good shoots out of this Revelutionary Camera. The OIS system and Extra long Zoom should be your Main reason and deciding factor for purchasing this Outstanding Camera. I do not recommend purchasing this Camera for Outstanding picture qualty.
