Oregon Scientific Action Cam ATC5K

7 August 2009
  • Summary: The ATC5K Action Camera has a few new features that make it easy to pick up and start using; however, it falls flat when it comes to video and photo quality.
  • Pros: The ATC5K has a color LCD that makes it easy to use in the field. Its Webcam and live monitor function enhance the usefulness of the camera. Waterproof, shockproof design takes bumps and splashes in stride.
  • Cons: Front-heavy design makes the unit difficult to mount stably. Low light performance is abysmal.

Review: Oregon Scientific Action Camera ATC5K

26 June 2009
  • Excerpt: With enough mounting doodads to stick the cam on your handlebars, helmet, beer can, whatever, the ATC5K appears ready for any outdoor activity. The water-resistant casing is effective down to 10 feet, and the 1.5-inch LCD is an unexpected luxury.
  • Pros: USB and RCA cables make pix easy to exhibit on either PC or TV.
  • Cons: Rubber helmet-mounting strap sucks; it couldn’t hold the cam in place, so we resorted to double-stick tape (not included). Interface is hard to parse, especially the icons.
