The Olympus XZ-1 is a digital camera that features a memory card slot that supports SDHC/SDXC memory card up to 64 GB capacity. It is powered by a 1/1.63” image sensor that supports 10M (3664 x 2752) pixel resolution and is supported by a lens constructed with 11 elements in 8 groups (and 6 aspheric sides). The lens also supports 6.0mm to 24.0mm (28mm to 112mm) focal length, f 1.8-2.5 aperture, 4x optical zoom, 4x digital zoom, supports 4:3 aspect ratio, and records videos in 1280 x 720 resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. The XZ-1 also has Face Detection, Histogram, Number of storable still pictures, Record mode, ISO, Sequential shooting, Self-timer, White Balance, AF Imager AF, built-in Image stabilizer System, 2 - 1/2000 seconds shutter speed, a 3.0 inches (3:2) OLED display with 614,000dots color pixel and 100% field of view. The digital camera also supports Live View.

Powere by an iZuiko f1.8-2.5 6.0-24mm (28-112mm equivalent angle of view in 35mm cameras) digital lens, the Olympus XZ-1 has a minimum aperture of f1.8 at wide-angle and a maximum aperture of f2.5 at telephoto, and allows photographers to take portraits that highlight the subject by defocusing the background. The 1/1.63-inch, 10-megapixel CCD allows users to take low-noise images even in dimly lit situations such as night scenes and indoor shots. It also features a 3.0-inch OLED display which lets users frame and show off still images and High Definition (HD) movies in detailed 720p. The monitor also supports a wide viewing angle. Other features on the XZ-1 include a control ring around the front of the lens and the wheel controller on the back for immediate access to important manual settings like ISO, aperture and shutter speed. Other features on the Olympus XZ-1 are built-in pop-up flash to illuminate low-light subjects, reduce red-eye and fill in dark areas; AF illuminator to focus in low-light situations; Dual Image Stabilization with Mechanical Shift Image Stabilization which compensates for camera movement in low-light conditions when shutter speeds are slower and Digital Image Stabilization which freezes the action with high ISO sensitivity and fast shutter speeds and prevent blurry images caused by a moving subject; up to ISO 3200 sensitivity; an accessory port compatible with select PEN® camera accessories that allows users to attach optional accessories like the SEMA-1 external microphone adapter, the VF-2 electronic viewfinder, or the newly introduced MAL-1 macro light. The Olympus XZ-1 supports video capture at 720p HD 30 frames-per-second, then allows users to view their videos on an HDTV with an optional HDMI cable.
