Excerpt: I bought 5 of these cameras to conduct shallow underwater surveys with my colleagues. All the dives I've taken them on have been at depths shallower than 22' - well below the advertised threshold of 33'. We work with underwater equipment and o-rings frequently, so we're very familiar with how to assemble and maintain stuff like this. All 5 of these cameras have failed after one or two dives.
Summary: My wife and I got this camera for some snorkeling photos on our honeymoon. It took great photos. However, after one day of use the camera's different functions ceased to work. We could no long take video or review our photographs. It would still take photos above and below water. When we got home and contact Olympus about the issue they wanted us to send them approximately half the value of the camera to fix it.
Summary: I'm not one to usually have anything negative to say, but add me to the list of those experiencing button issues on first time use. I purchased this product to replace another Olympus WP camera that gave good service for two years, and then one side of the zoom button quit functioning. So maybe I should have been leery, but I was intrigued by the wide angle.
Summary: We needed a waterproof camera for a trip to the Galapagos. After doing some research we decided to go with the new TG-850. It took great pictures until on day 2 we took it in the water. Despite following all the instructions the camera evidently leaked and the electronics went haywire. Thank goodness we had a backup camera (Canon). Now waiting for Olympus to tell us what to do as their webpage does not yet include support information the TG-850.

Summary: This is day one of my beach vacation and the camera seemed to work great on land. The problem came when I stepped into the ocean to take pictures of my kids and the first wave that knocked me off my feet also knocked the camera out of my hand. I had the floating strap on the camera and around my wrist but when I stood up all I had was the floating strap on my wrist no camera! Now I have no pictures and no camera.
Excerpt: I'm really disappointed in this camera.I took it scuba diving in the West Indies, all buttons beside the on/off and shutter have stopped working after the first dip in the water. At least I got a few pictures out of it.The image quality is depressing for a 16mp camera. I'm used to my DSLR granted, but the camera on my iPhone 4S (three years old) appears equal to or better than all of the photo's I've taken with this camera.Close up images are okay.

Summary: Same problem many others seem to be having. Sometimes none of the buttons work. Sometimes it will act as if you clicked one button or turned the dial when you were clicking a different button. It took nice photos and video while it lasted. The procedure for opening it after being in water is a pain. Battery was showing as half charged after only an hour of use so I needed to charge it daily.

Summary: Very nice concept with the screen. We are in Egypt right now. Camera went out of order after first snorkeling. It seems to be the buttons. The battery compartment is dry. Camera was still working (No zoom, no menus, but on /off ok andalso taking pictures). After third snorkeling trip no reaction any more. A total desaster. Seems to be very bad engineering or production. I can not recomend this camera because now I am at the red sea and can not take pictures in the water.
