  • Excerpt: The main advantage is the 16 MP BSI CMOS sensor, as compared against the CCD in my Stylus 9010. Video allows 2 full-resolution stills in each clip, I used that a lot. Moon shots and flying gannets show better detail and fewer artifacts than similar shots on my SP-570UZ bridge camera do. The SZ-30MR quickly replaced both the SP-570UZ and the Stylus 9010 for all jobs except those with external bounce flash, since it does 24x zoom in a pocket P&S format.

  • Excerpt: I´ve had the camera for a month and I´m pretty impressed with the overall performance. It´s definitely the most beautiful camera I´ve ever had amongst about a dozen models from Ricoh, Canon, Panasonic, Sony and Olympus. Build quality is very good. The menus are pretty intuitive. The speed is good. Picture quality is very good most times as far as small sensors are concerned. Video is smooth. The filters are fun to use. Flash is excellent, open it when needed.

  • Summary: I am a casual user, not a pro. But I am impressed with the design and ease of use..little to argue about. It could look just a tad more techie..splitting hairs though.

  • Excerpt: My first review was luke-warm on the grounds of mode dial placement and in-camera processing. Over the last month I produced my amateur radio newsletter pictures with it - and other than cropping I had to do no post-processing. The photo-copied versions reproduced well. The appearance of artifacts in originals becomes less and less - could it be due to solderflux now boiling off? There is also less focus-hunting now at long focal length.

  • Excerpt: I am using my SZ-30MR as a carry-anywhere camera, substituting for both my SP-570UZ 20x zoom 10MP bridge camera and my Stylus 9010 10x zoom 14MP pocket P&S. I appreciate that the SZ-30MR zoom range is wider than that of the SP-570UZ. The pictures are sharp and the exposure choices in P mode reliable. 'Night Scene' overexposes, but the detail is still there for PSE7 'Levels' to bring it out. 'Hand-Held Starlight' SCENE mode is good for A4 size prints.

  • Excerpt: My wife uses this camera all the time and although she is not a keen photographer she has taken some great shots, the main advantage of this camera is the unbelievable 24X zoom range. The ergonomics are great it has a hand grip better than most compact zooms and handles really well. The start up time contrary to some reports we have found to be no problem. Picture quality is good, autofocus good, low light performance is excellent.

  • Excerpt: I have used my new Olympus SZ-30MR for about a week now. I bought it as a potential replacement for my Samsung HZ30W. Prior to that I had a Panasonic TZ5. Let me first say that the Samsung HZ30W is an outstanding travel zoom camera, especially for the price. I bought the HZ30W about a year ago for $150. I paid $285 on line last week for the new SZ-30MR. I find the overall design of the SZ-30MR to be very well executed.

  • Excerpt: Compact The camera certainly is compact, in fact much smaller than I was expecting in comparison to the Panasonic TZ7 I’m replacing it is a little bulkier however it has an Optical Zoom of twice the size. Pocket able well they will have to be baggy coat or jacket pocket no problem. Durable Over all the camera is well constructed although I feel I’ve been spoiled a little with the aluminium bodies of the Panasonics.
