Summary: I ordered this camera because I was looking for something compact to take hiking, paddling and to have just a pocket camera. Plus, for grab shots, it isn't practical to carry my dSLR around with me. As we like to paddle kayaks, I'd much rather get this wet than my more expensive camera. So, on to the merits of the camera. It has an extremely quick focus with no problems with shutter lag. The viewfinder is about typical in daylight shots. The video does a pretty good job.
Summary: This is a pretty good little camera. Takes nice sharp pictures. It's really quick so I can use it to take photos of my kids and animals. I'm not crazy about the wide angle lens - sometimes distorts photos around the edges. The zoom is very powerful and I get nice sharp shots with it. Sometimes zoom lenses result in shaky photos, but so far have had good luck with that. I like the HD video. Very sharp, but sometimes hear the motor noise in the recordings.
Summary: I needed a lighter, less expensive camera to take on my daughter's field trip so I wouldn't have to lug around the more expensive dslr and lenses around, so this was kind of a last minute, spur of the moment purchase for me. Thank goodness for amazon prime and their two day shipping. It got here just in time and the battery was already charged for me, so that was a nice plus too.
Summary: The pictures this camera takes are phenominal. The problem is the audio when taking a video. The auto-focus mechanisms inside the camera are constantly going and make for a ton of background noise while taking video.
Summary: The pictures are crystal clear, the movies are Hi definition and the sound is very clear, the zoom is awesome for the price, there are cameras costing a lot more with a lot less features then this camera. It's a product with a great name and tradition of quality.
Pretty good for the price, but not comparable to top of the line cameras

Summary: For the price, this camera is good. I use a DSLR for my professional work, but I wanted a point and shoot for a research job that I have. It's easy to stick in my pocket and has a long zoom, which I need. The quality is not comparable to a top of the line camera, but if you just need a camera for snapshots, then this will do the trick. I have not liked motion or flash-pictures taken with the camera so far, but I use my pro camera for portraits or sports.
Summary: I'm the type who doesn't want to take time for adjusting settings. I want to point and shoot. This camera does it, pretty well, except at extended zoom, or in low light conditions. Near the limit of the optical zoom, focus is poor. Without the flash, in low light, the images become unacceptably grainy. With the flash, colors are washed-out. In my amateur opinion, where it excels is in accurately depicting color and contrast, under 'normal' light conditions.
