Excerpt: I have been taking underwater photos for more than 25 years and find this small, simple to use camera a great companion for sailing, windsurfing and snorkling trips and well as skiing and other outdoor activities where snap shots will do. The picture quality is fine and the features (movie, snow etc) are most of what snap shot photographers need. Cons:The zoom is only 3x and it has no view finder making it difficult to frame a picture in very bright light.
Okay picture quality, easy to use, waterproofing great feature.

Excerpt: After having lost my Sony DSC P100, a really nice and compact camera, I looked for a replacement and bumped into the Olympus µ 790 SW by pure chance. In spite of being a less "professional" camera I instantly fell in love with it because you could go swimming with it right out of the box.
Excerpt: I love this camera it takes great pictures, but in the sun it is hard to see the lcd screen. I wish it had the view finder on it. This camera really is shock proof and water proof. I live near the ocean and i have kids so it really derable and great for parents!
Surprisingly good photos, rugged, wish had more manual controls

Summary: Overall a terrific compact camera. Photos came out much better than expected. I didn't try its waterproof'ness, but it's certainly rugged and weather strong rain. Battery life is average. I recommend getting an extra battery. Wish it used regular SD chip rather than XD. I would buy it again.
Summary: and this camera is my buddy... I have the lime version and we've been almost everywhere together since December 2007. Just last week, I took it with me to a rock concert and got some great photos (more on that a little later). Even though I'm not much of a drinker since leaving college, I still refer to this as my "drunk proof" camera, because I think it would be absolutely perfect for a bar-hopping college student...
Summary: We bought this camera with the intention of taking it outdoors for hiking, rock climbing, snorkeling, trail running, etc... Although the picture quality was not perfect, we were able to capture all our adventures on this camera. When we took it Rock climbing in southwest Washington, I had it in my pocket on a snowy climb and it fell 35 feet out of my pocket, bounced on the rocks below and survived. The camera still worked perfectly!
Summary: Had this camera for a little more than a year and can't say how happy I am with its durability. I do a lot of kayaking, crew and water sports and it is such a comfort to know that this can be brought into the boat without any worries. The batter is still strong and the casing has lasted very well despite frequent use. Would recommend Olympus to others. The one main downside is that the onscreen controls are not as intuitive in my opinion as a Canon.
4 stars for Olympus warranty, minus 1 star for durability

Summary: We purchased this camera for our son who builds water parks and takes photographs of job progress. We figured he would need a camera that was waterproof and rugged. It fit the bill, however, it was crushed by his leaning on it when it was perched on the center console in his truck. Now, our son is not a heavy man so we were perplexed that it crushed. The crush job destroyed the LCD screen.
Summary: First let me say, while not the highest MP's on the block, the advertized "oopps-proofing" of this camera drew me in. Drops from up to 5 feet can be weathered, its submersible, can operate in temperature conditions to 10 below 0, and the portability are all sure fire winners in our family. Now onto the software: Can I say WOW? Very user friendly (as I have YET to crack open the book).
