Not worth it

Summary: I spend a lot of time with my family at the beach/pool, so I figured this would be a good option. Nope. After two times underwater it stopped working. I wasn't able to see the pictures or download them. A couple weeks later is started working again so I used it underwater just in a pool, and again the same thing happened. I was even cleaning it in fresh water after using it.
Summary: I have had THREE of these cameras. The first one I broke due to leaving in a hydraulic lift and smashing the LCD (my fault-no fault of the camera). Surprisingly, the fine folks at Olympus repaired it for free. Unfortunately, that camera broke the first time I went snorkeling with it in less that 5 feet of water. I then returned it again, and Olympus sent me a brand new camera. Sadly, while in Hawaii that camera broke while snorkeling again!
Summary: I bought this camera out of desperation, as my toddler has broken 2 canon cameras.... but canon cameras give way better picture quality. i have had this olympus camera now for almost 2 years, and it really is great for the beach, by the pool, or when the toddler-now-5-year old wants to take a picture -- but the pictures do come out a bit grainy, which is annoying when you capture a really great smile... but the picture isn't that clear.
Great for underwater shots, but poor quality otherwise

Summary: I bought this camera because I work in tropical areas, and having a camera put up with an inundation occasionally is a handy feature. However, I now would love to return this one and get a camera that takes good quality pictures. This one returns consistently disappointing results - the picture quality is just flat-out poor. It never seems to quite get in focus, and the pictures are always soft and somewhat blurry.
Summary: I bought this camera after a 5-foot drop killed my wonderful Casio Exilim. I got it precisely because it is rugged and waterproof, and figured that was worth the extra money. And it is - if you don't mind the TERRIBLE PICTURE QUALITY. The Casio excelled at taking pictures in low light. If you turned off the flash and set it to anti-shake, it would warn you about low exposure, but it would still take the picture with quick shutter speed to minimize blurring.
Summary: I've bought this camera to use in my trips. The huge problem is: There is no manual settings in this camera. You have to use or the auto shoot (terrible in many situations) or scene mode. Scene mode works well enough in some scenarios, but it's terrible with low light. If you're planning to buy a camera to use only in outside locations, it's a good camera (including pools, beach, etc).
Summary: I bought the camera for backpacking because it was waterproof and small. I didn't think that the lack of a viewfinder would make the camera impossible to use on a sunny day. I took it to Death Valley with me and outside in the sun I had to guess at the shots I was taking because I couldn't tell by looking at the LCD screen. Fortunately I had a old camera with me and used that for the rest of the trip.
Summary: Bought it for my girlfriend for a snowboarding trip we were going on. It takes "ok" pictures. The auto focus seems to be working overtime, so I changed it from face detection for her to spot detection, that way it only focuses when you press the shutter halfway. After using the camera for a day, she switched back to her 5 megapixel Kodak V530. The color quality compared to the V530 is terrible on the automatic settings.
Summary: I have used a Pentax Optio for two years and thought the 790Sw looked like a nice upgrade. However after a weekend using the camera the deal breaker to me is that almost every picture turned out grainy and or out of focus. I will go back to using the Pentax for now. I sure wish Cannon would come out with a water/shock proof camera !
Summary: overall this camera is exactly what I wanted for taking photos on various holidays including the odd video. I'm very happy with the picture quality and the camera has some very clever innovations such as editing pictures including getting rid of red eye whilst reviewing the pictures on the screen of the camera. however one of the main reasons I bought this camera is that it is for use underwater up to 3m deep!
