Solid All Around Camera

Ger, B&H Photo
16 July 2014
  • Excerpt: I bought the Stylus 1 to take to concert venues where I can't get in with my "professional" DSLR. No problem! The 28-300mm zoom lens and constant f/2.8 aperture are perfect for shooting live concerts. Small and unobtrusive, no one knows that you're able to easily and consistently capture DSLR quality shots. The auto focus is fast and accurate, and the menu system is reasonably simple to master.
  • Pros: Easy to Use, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Battery Life, Good in Low Light, Great Resolution, Great Zoom, Large Clear LCD, Small / Compact

  • Excerpt: This camera is just too good for my age (born in 1981).  The technology has come so far, it's hard to catch up.  I'm using this with the tcon 17x teleconverter and the results are great. The smaller sensor does suffer a bit in lowlight, but even high-iso images have a sharpness I cannot easily describe.  While the image in the frame on the LCD looks moving, the IS is so good when you playback the image it's tack sharp.  For good available light, this cannot be beaten.

Great travel camera

  • Excerpt: Bought this for my wife who decided she wants to take pictures rather than waiting for me to take pictures! Size and weight near OMD models, well built, nice feature set, IQ very good, good zoom range, I personally like the Oly jpegs and there is raw for those who want to tinker. It's a really great all around camera and easy to carry in a small bag. It is a little large for the pocket but would fit in a jacket pocket. Two thumbs up!!
  • Pros: Easy to Use, Fast Shutter Speed, Good in Low Light, Great Resolution, Great Zoom, Large Clear LCD

Excellent Camera

Ger, Adorama
17 June 2014
  • Excerpt: I bought the Stylus 1 to take to a recent music festival and it performed flawlessly! It handled the difficult stage lighting beautifully. The fast constant f/2.8 aperture was great for freezing high energy stage performances. The compact size is unobtrusive, and the 300mm optical zoom is a great touch. My only complaint with the Stylus 1, as eel as most other cameras in its class, is that the smallest aperture is f/8. This isn't optimal for landscapes.
  • Pros: Easy to Use, Fast Shutter Speed, Good Battery Life, Good in Low Light, Great Resolution, Great Zoom, Large Clear LCD, Small / Compact

Very versatile camera

  • Excerpt: With a touch screen to set the focus point, both a lcd screen and a eye piece to view through a 10x zoom constant at f2.8, the camera can do just about everything i want it to do. The only draw back is it has so many bells and whistles and options, it is almost too much. I would have preferred less options. They make the menus cumbersome. The SonyRX100 is much easier to use and smaller, but it lacks the zoom range of this camera.
  • Pros: Fast Shutter Speed, Good Battery Life, Good in Low Light, Great Resolution, Great Zoom, Has Great Macro Ability, Large Clear LCD, Small / Compact
  • Cons: Complicated Controls

Better than the NEX 6

Mom in Irvine, Amazon
4 May 2014
  • Summary: For 10 years I shot thousands of photos with my trusty Canon Powershot G3. I was always surprised at how sharp and clean the photos were. But I got to a point where I needed a real viewfinder, a bigger LCD, and better video capability. I also wanted an EVF so I could shoot videos using the viewfinder. After a lot of research, I settled on the Sony NEX 6 with the 16-50mm kit lens.

Good All-Around Compact

  • Excerpt: I love my Sony RX100 except for the limited zoom, so I wanted a point and shoot with more zoom, which the Stylus 1 possesses. I was also impressed with the viewfinder and the constant fixed aperture. Decent in low light.
  • Pros: Constant Fixed Aperture, Good in Low Light, Great Zoom, Quality Viewfinder
  • Cons: Could Be A Tad Smaller, No Panoramic View Mode

Great travel camera

  • Excerpt: I am a 70+ year old retiree who is finding that messing around with a DSLR is getting to be problemetic due to the partial paralysis of my hands. I wanted a smaller, lighter camera with a decent zoom as a replacement when along came the Stylus 1. It fills the bill very nicely. I would indeed recommend it to others (in fact, I have already done so). The pros: 1. It is small enough to carry all day without fatigue. 2. Its 10+x zoon is a very nice lens.
  • Pros: Fast Shutter Speed, Good Battery Life, Good in Low Light, Great Zoom, Large Clear LCD, Small / Compact

  • Excerpt: I like a lot about this camera; it has a sturdy 'feel' about it. The EVF and the nice large (touch-) screen work fine. For me it's the ideal camera to take out on a trip, shoot some nice landscapes and some details you like one a building.... The focusing could be a bit faster under difficult circumstances (photographing a frog in a dark pond proved to be quite difficult). I don't experience this as a very 'fast' camera when being around kids or sports.

Powerful small camera with more features than expected

Anysia, CNET
27 March 2014
  • Summary: First off, as a photographer, I can flat out say judging a camera by 'pixel peeping' a waste of time. Most images are printed out as 5x7 or 8x10. Also, I've had A3+ sized photobooks printed out using 1600 ISO images, and the noise doesn't translate to the print.
  • Pros: Lightweight, articulated screen, touch screen focusing, shutter/aperture controls separated
  • Cons: Chromatic aberration in back or bright directional lighting, Olympus viewer 3 Software needs to be updated for camera profile
