OLympus fixed lens zoom point and shoot

Charles W. Riendeau "Deaubooks", Amazon
5 January 2012
  • Summary: This Olympus point and shoot looks good and handles well. It has a multitude of options with which I am still becoming familiar. The picture quality in comparison with a Lumix is superior with roughly the same pixels. The exposure system of the Olympus definitely outdid the Lumix when challenged with a bright light source in the form of the setting sun with clouds. Normally, direct sun causes a large flaring image with many digital cameras.

Good camera....

lordhoot "lordhoot", Amazon
19 April 2011
  • Summary: Having used this camera for several days, I can basically say that this camera falls right between your basic point and shoot and ultrazoom. I will try to write this review so it won't terribly overlapped some of the other well written reviews. For those thinking this is the next step after SP590UZ, you are pretty wrong. Although zoom is extended to 30x, your camera features are more closer to your basic point and shoot camera.

Nice Camera with Drawbacks!

Brian M. Edwards, Amazon
29 January 2011
  • Summary: This is one nice looking camera with the best quality build I think I have EVER seen in a camera, really, it screams quality at you and if you plan to use this solely for photography and NOT for video, then I give it 5 stars. The quality of the photos to my (amateur) eyes are very good even in relatively low light, the zoom is excellent (for photography) and the proprietary battery seems to last for ever.

Slow, poor low light performance

Sergey Kiselev "skiselev", Amazon
30 August 2010
  • Summary: I bought this camera at Costco as an upgrade for my point and shoot camera (Fujifilm F72Exr), with main goal to take pictures of my kids, and do some nature photography. I tried it many times in different conditions, and was not satisfied by its performance. I returned it after two weeks or so. Cons: - Poor low light performance (by low light here I mean indoor photography with normal room lighting, without using flash).

Low buck - high tech

Walmart
20 June 2010
  • Summary: Relatively inexpensive for a 30X optical point & shoot digital camera. For the novice like me, this camera brings my pictures into the next decade with lots of potential. Very surprised at the functionality of this camera. At the 8 megapixel setting, it seems to work best for my needs. The in-camera capabilities are too many to list; and will fit the right setting each time it is used. I hope others find this camera as exciting to use as I do.

Didn't meet expectations

Walmart
20 June 2010
  • Summary: I bought this camera thinking it would be awesome... not so much! My old camera with only 7MP takes WAY better pics. I played with the settings several times and no luck. I looked up consumer reports and the Panasonic Lumix and Cannon got the best reviews.

Olympus SP 800 UZ review

G. Alldredge, Amazon
4 June 2010
  • Summary: I'm an Olympus fan with an E-620 as my top DSLR. I really liked the SP 550 UZ when it was fairly new. I then bought an SP 565 UZ and then an SP 590 UZ. The Olympus SP 800 UZ is one of those new 'mirror-less' point-and-shoots that tries to make up for no viewfinder by having a bright, well designed screen. I found the 800 UZ very difficult to see in bright sunlight. I longed for my 590 UZ with a view finder. Indoors, the 800 UZ is a dream as to scene/shot preview.

hunting for software

Candona, Amazon
2 June 2010
  • Summary: I bought this camera and it seems great except there is no software with it for downloading the pictures from the camera and I haven't found anything yet searching the web so until I can save the pictures I already took I won't get much use out of the camera. I was informed there is a manual available for the camera that can be downloaded from the manufacturers website but I haven't found that yet either. A hard copy manual should be included along with some software.

User Review

UZUser, DP Review
28 May 2010
  • Excerpt: As an owner of a 2100UZ, I decided to upgrade to an SP-800UZ for a trip to Glacier Bay, Alaska. Here are some of my observations about the SP-800UZ after 400+ photos were taken on this trip. Pro: Very satisfied with all of the individual photos taken in a variety of lighting conditions in P-mode. Only P-mode and Panorama-mode were used throughout the trip.
