Disappointed!

David, Amazon
10 September 2015
  • Summary: I don't know; and, quite honestly, I think Olympus Customer Service stinks; but, then again, maybe I caught them on a bad day. It was too expensive; and I regret spending the money.

Could have been a good camera.

Ken Halbrecht, Amazon

I am OK with the camera but!

msUser1111, Amazon
6 July 2013
  • Summary: For a life of me cant figure out the setting to make a 14megapixel picture with it. The screen says, 14mp and all the photos turns out to be 5mp ish. Its very disappointing because i am having a trip, and wanted to have high res photos. Any hint how to set the machine for the 14mp shots? Thanks

After a few months, the jury is out on this so-so camera!

Tony, Amazon
8 December 2012
  • Summary: I was truly excited about the 30X optical zoom, which is very cool however, indoor picture quality and low light pics are far from good! I have tried and tried to tweak the parameters and cannot get a satisfactory result.

Good, but loss of manual settings disturbing

Kevin H., Newegg
9 February 2011
  • Summary: Had an older Olympus SP-550uz which was sold in lieu of the "newer" SP-800 model. I regret selling the older camera although the new features on the 800 model are good, they don't make up for the loss of manual controls. I shouldn't need to buy a DSLR to have control over basic exposure functions.
  • Pros: Good video recording. Zoom and image stabilization are good. Relatively small size/weight for what it does. Weather-resistence is a huge plus, nearly eliminates odds of premature death from corrosion. Image quality is good, about what I would expect.
  • Cons: Menu is clunky, and commonly used functions like format are buried. LOSS OF MOST MANUAL EXPOSURE CONTROLS. Included strap is a bit flimsy, uncomfortable when sweating or for long periods of time. Transferring images through USB tends to corrupt the thumbnails if I don't open the folder and allow ...

OLympus fixed lens zoom point and shoot

Charles W. Riendeau, Amazon
7 October 2010
  • Summary: This Olympus point and shoot looks good and handles well. It has a multitude of options with which I am still becoming familiar. The picture quality in comparison with a Lumix is superior with roughly the same pixels.

Short Shooting Span

Ew Brown "the teksta", Amazon
8 September 2010
  • Summary: Upon receipt of this new Olympus (point & shoot) SP800 UZ camera, I was thrilled at the potential that it posed offering 14 mega pixels and a 30x zoom. I own several Olympus digital cameras, the last of which was the SP510 UZ with a 7.1 mega pixels and a 10x optical zoom and each time I am...

pro/con

mad monk "mad monk", Amazon
31 August 2010
  • Summary: Pro: Good price for the camera. The picture quality is very good. Recovery is quick. Functions and options are plentiful. Tech support was helpful. Con: The image stabilization doesn't seem very effective. Camera set up was a nightmare since I run a Mac.

Slow, poor low light performance

Sergey Kiselev "skiselev", Amazon
30 August 2010
  • Summary: I bought this camera at Costco as an upgrade for my point and shoot camera (Fujifilm F72Exr), with main goal to take pictures of my kids, and do some nature photography. I tried it many times in different conditions, and was not satisfied by its performance. I returned it after two weeks or so.
