List All 2 PricesOlympus is no stranger to ultrazooms, with three models in its current line-up: the 10 megapixel/20x zoom 565UZ and 570UZ, and the new 12 megapixel/26x zoom 590UZ. The smallest and lightest of the three, the Olympus SP-565UZ represents a minor update to its sibling, the 570UZ. Users of the latter camera won't gain much by upgrading to the 565UZ since both cameras offer the same 10 megapixel sensor, 20x optical zoom, and an almost carbon-copy list of features. Read more
The Olympus SP-565 UltraZoom takes the SP-570UZ model from Spring 2008, and updates it with a redesigned body that's a couple of millimeters less wide, almost a millimeter shorter, and about seven millimeters less deep. It's also about 72 grams lighter, an appreciable difference. The reduction in size has been achieved while retaining the earlier model's 1/2.33" CCD imager with a resolution of ten megapixels, as well as its Olympus ED-branded 20x (!!) optical zoom lens... - Impressive zoom capability. - Nice balance of manual and auto controls - Easy to use for beginners and advanced users alike. - Reasonably priced. Dislikes - The viewfinder screen looks pixelated. - Not much of a grip on the left side. Conclusion At $400, the SP-565 UZ is a bit more expensive than the average point-and-shoot, and clearly bulkier, but it offers much more functionality. Read more
The Olympus SP-565 UZ feels more like a consolidation and evolution of existing big zoom products rather than a great leap forward, with a launch price that closely matches that of the SP-570UZ when introduced (with the just announced 26x zoom, 12 megapixel SP-590UZ taking over as the new flagship of the Olympus range). As well as the long zoom the SP-565UZ has an array of advanced features. These include manual exposure modes, bracketing and manual focus. If you reduce the number of megapixels to three the camera is able to shoot at 13.5 frames per second. Read more
Pro: For the most part, I am happy with this camera's shooting capabilities. I've used it since 2009 and I purchased it because of its 20x optical zoom. It is simple to use. I love taking close up photos of animals with this camera. Meh: Battery life is so-so. I always carry a spare set for longer trips. Con: This camera's video record setting does not record sound! This camera is versatile, fast, easy to use, not too heavy, and an all around good performer. I take photos of oddly lit subjects, fast moving subjects, of people, buildings, and i have thus far not found one thing about the camera that i don't like aside from the short lens cap strap. I may buy another lens cap so i can double the length & not have it so close to the body while i'm shooting video. It's really a pet peeve vs an issue with the camera. Read more
I am disappointed with the indoor shot quality but NOT to the extent that I wouldn't purchase this camera. I have a cannon point & shoot that takes excellent indoor shots so I keep it on hand. But you cannot (for the price) beat this camera if you don't want to juggle several lens. Read more
Although the camera was in great shape for being used. I am having issues with clearity on certain settings. Could be operator erros. But over-all not bad. Read more

OK, I beginning to feel like I'm missing something very obvious. I previously owned a Sony Cybershot. Basically - point and shoot. Wanted something a step above - got the Olympus SP 565 UZ. The pictures I've taken so far are aweful. Outdoors - no problem. Indoors - horrible. I took a series at my granddaughters cheerleading event - school gym - the zoom was terrible - pictures were grainy and out of focus. Took a few shots on Christmas - the family sitting around the living room - horrible. Out of focus - grainy - dark - ...... Could I have a bad camera? I'm wondering. Purchased on line - don't know if I have any recourse. I'm super disappointed and need some help.

What ISO are you using? Are you using the flash? Indoor shots without the flash or beyond the range of the flash can cause grainy photos depending on the camera settings. In auto mode, the camera trys to set itself to a high ISO which causes grainy
