DP Review

  • Conclusion: We described the Fuji S8000fd as trying to be all things to all people, but that was before we really got to grips with the Olympus SP-560UZ. The number of features and options available on the Olympus is frankly comical. You could use this camera for years without ever finding all the (often fairly pointless) things it can do, so numerous and deeply buried in menus are they. The SP-560UZ has more features than most users will ever discover, let alone want to use.
  • Pros: Phenomenal zoom range that includes real wide-angle to long telephoto capability, Huge range of features, Reliable exposure, Good ergonomics, RAW mode (though very slow), Bright, immediate 'consumer friendly' output, Good detail and color at lowest ISO settings, Shadow Adjust helps produce nice portraits, Fix Lighting helps make the most of the camera's dynamic range, Control of off-board flash is both useful and simple, Image stabilization, Manual controls available,...
  • Cons: More features than you will know what to do with (many of them gimmicky), Unwieldy menu system, Corner softness at shorter focal lengths, High contrast tone curve tends to clip shadows or highlights, RAW mode so terribly slow, Limited AA battery life, Evidence of noise reduction smearing at anything over base ISO, ISO 400 and above noisy and showing heavy noise reduction, Plastic tripod mount, Manual focus requires a lot of guesswork, Focus hunting in low light, at lo...

Olympus SP-560 UZ Review

Digitaltrends
19 December 2007
  • Conclusion: The Olympus SP-560 UZ mega zoom camera has a lot of things going for it but in the end, its picture quality and performance that matter the most. My advice would be to buy the Panasonic if you’re looking for an 18x zoom since they’re similarly priced. I just wish Olympus would beef up its point-and-shoots to the level of its D-SLRs. Until then, they’ll continue to be also-rans.
  • Pros: 8MP 18x zoom digicam with sensor shift stabilization
  • Cons: Much slower response than the competition

Olympus SP-560

Cameras
8 August 2014
  • Conclusion: Perhaps I have been a bit harsh in my assessment of the Olympus SP-560, but I am disappointed by the quality of some of my test shots. The camera has plenty of features and I am sure its long lens will appeal to many.
  • Pros: Macro shot
  • Cons: Picture quality when full zoom used - shutter time for single photo with flash

  • Summary: While not a perfect camera, Olympus' SP-560UZ is an excellent choice for users after an ultra-zoom. It combines good pictures with a robust feature set and a fantastic design.
  • Pros: Huge zoom, good detail in dark areas, face detect, nice build
  • Cons: Noise may be a problem for big enlargements, slow burst mode, some exposure issues

Olympus SP-560 UZ review

expertreviews.co.uk
5 December 2007
  • Excerpt: The SP-560 UZ is an update to the SP-550 UZ, reviewed in What's New, Shopper 232. Inside the largely identical shell, the sensor has one extra megapixel and is physically slightly larger, resulting in shorter focal lengths when converted into 35mm film equivalents. Still, the 486mm telephoto setting is extraordinary and the 18x zoom range is as big as we've seen on a digital camera. Olympus has largely dispelled its predecessor's performance problems.

Olympus SP-560UZ

PhotoReview

  • Summary: A smart-looking ultra-zoom digicam with a wide choice of shooting controls and image formats and sizes.A strong competitor in the 18x zoom category, the Olympus SP-560 UZ has the same 18x optical zoom lens and lens shift plus ISO boosting image stabiliser as its predecessor, the SP-550 UZ. However its sensor is larger and has 8 megapixels instead of 7.1.
