Summary: I have owned this camera since 2005. It was stolen from my home recently, and I just purchased another one. I compared this camera to all of Olympus's other remakes and none can compare to the picture quality. I do photo manipulation for performers and models, and I wouldn't trade this camera in for the world. This camera seems to know exactly how to take the perfect picture without many blemishes and red eye.
Summary: I am not by any means a professional photographer, and this camera is quite a step up from the "point and shoot" cameras I have used so far. That being said so far so good, I think the picture quality is fantastic, the camera fits the hand well and is light weight. I am really impressed with the ultra zoom, it amazes me how close you can bring distant objects.
Summary: I was a little skeptical about replacing my stolen digital SLR. This camera more then fills the bill, an excellent choice for beginner to intermediate photography. It will take you a long time to out grow this camera. This merchant is 5 STAR ***** all the way.
Summary: I like the zoom and the many features I don't have with my other camera. I have used it already at my children's musical's and it preforms very well in dark auditoriums. It has many features that I haven't had a chance to use yet but can't wait to be able to use.
Summary: This camera replaces a stolen Olympus C725 before that I was a high end 35mm user. This Sp-550uz is great for beginner or Pro users, easy point a click pictures or manual settings your choice. Many preset setups for different types of pictures makes it almost fool proof. You can even add lenses to it for super wide angle or telephoto. You can't go wrong with camera.
Summary: I got this camera because I started a job taking macro photographs of jewelry which my boss sells on the web. I first tried his Canon Rebel with a macro 100mm Canon lens. Then I tried my Canon 5D with his expensive macros lens. But I couldn't get as good results with those, as with his Olympus Camedia 550 with a Super-Macro setting. That camera was pretty old and well-used, so it was temperamental, so I decided to get this camera used on ebay because it's pretty similar.
Conclusion: One problem with reviews is that most opinions are based on first impressions and some limited testing, little can be said about the longevity of a particular product other than "it feels solid", as the Olympus SP-550 certainly does. After using the camera for 15 months I have a better idea now about the actual long term performance, the conclusion is that the lens assembly is very fragile and prone to malfunction, even with the most careful use and storage.
