  • Excerpt: The SP-350 ($399) is one of three models in Olympus' new SP-series of digital cameras. The SP-350, along with its lower cost sibling, the SP-310, is a compact camera with a 3X optical zoom lens, 2.5" LCD display, full manual controls, VGA movie mode, and an AF-assist lamp. Both cameras use AA batteries and support the RAW image format.
  • Pros: Good value for the money, Very good photo quality; good high ISO performance for a point-and-shoot, Full manual controls, Large LCD display gains up in low light (but see issues below), Support for RAW image format, Customizable buttons and menus; favorite settings can be saved to spot on the mode dial, Not one, but two live histograms, In-camera help system (though it needs to be a little more descriptive), Cool extras like calendar, title, frames, VGA movie mode wit...
  • Cons: Sluggish performance in almost all areas, especially when RAW is used, While big in size, LCD is small in resolution, Unimpressive burst mode: slow frame rate, small buffer, LCD blackout, Movies limited to 20 seconds at highest quality setting, Disappointing low light focusing, Not much built-in memory, no rechargeable batteries included, xD cards are more expensive than other formats, Full manual only on CD

  • Conclusion: The Olympus SP 350 is an advanced digital camera at a very reasonable price. The camera is absolutely packed with features and I like the way the camera handles in general. On the whole photos are incredibly sharp with strong colours. Unfortunately the camera struggled badly in my shutter lag test though. If it wasn't for the shutter lag issue I would be tempted to keep this camera for myself.
  • Pros: Sharpness in outdoor shots, Feature set, Record in RAW format
  • Cons: Battery life, Shutter lag

[ REVIEW — OLYMPUS SP-350 digital camera ]

DPexpert
7 July 2011
  • Excerpt: $700 The is an 8 megapixel compact camera with a 3X optical zoom (38–114mm film equivalent). Olympus designate the SP-350 as an “enthusiast” camera because it has some features not found on most compacts at this price: external flash shoe, optional lens extenders, RAW image recording and an optical viewfinder. The camera shape is attractive and ergonomically reassuring. The battery/memory card compartment bulge on the right of the camera makes a useful handgrip.
  • Pros: Exposure is fairly accurate and the exposure compensation method is just about the easiest and most intuitive we have encountered. We found the Olympus default ESP metering to be generally the best at determining exposure. The SP-350 can be used as an automatic point and shoot camera but that would be a pity because it does provide the photographer with full manual controls. The best way to set up the camera is to create a “My Scene” setting with preferred defaults an...

  • Summary: With high levels of chromatic aberration and slow operation, the SP-350 is far from a perfect camera, but the images look great at smaller levels and so it could definitely be worth a look if you need a compact, powerful advanced model
  • Pros: Great colour response and sharpness, Nice design, Good battery life
  • Cons: Poor chromatic aberration, slow

Olympus SP-350

  • Summary: A compact, high-resolution camera with plenty of enthusiast features and 24 scene modes. It produces detailed pictures with accurate colours and well-controlled saturation. Most of the controls and functions keen photographers want are provided in the new Olympus SP-350, which is smaller and less than half the weight of the C-7070 Wide Zoom. There's a high-resolution CCD imager, P, A, S and M shooting modes and a versatile AF system with 143 selectable AF points.

Olympus SP-350

Absolut Photo
5 December 2006

  • Conclusion: Szót kell ejteni ugyanakkor néhány tervezési hiányosságáról: LCD-jének felbontása alacsony, autófókusza pedig sötétben meglehetősen lassan működik, valamint a korlátozott videofelvételi lehetőség sem válik az új gép előnyére. Az igazsághoz viszont az is hozzátartozik, hogy gyorsabb élességállítással és hatékonyabb mozgókép-rögzítési képességgel többnyire csak jóval drágább fényképezőkben találkozhatunk.
