Olympus PEN E-PL1

The Olympus PEN E-PL1 is the next release in Olympus' line of PEN camera models after the Pen E-P1 and E-P2 cameras. It was announced on the 4th February and will be available in March 2010. It features a 12.3Mp Live MOS sensor, an integrated flash and a 2.7-inch LCD display. Olympus has been quoted that their new camera is just like a DSLR camera with the exception of it being light-weighted. It will be available in two kinds of packages. First, there will be a single lens kit together with the camera and a 14-42mm single zoom lens. Second, a twin lens kit together with the camera and 14-42mm lens, a MMF-1E system adaptor and 40-150mm E-TeleZoom (28-300mm equivalent) zoom lens. This Olympus camera will be released in the following colors, black, white, champagne and red. For the first package, the price will be £549 (single lens kit) and for the second one (twin zoom lens kit), it’s £699.

Features

The Olympus PEN E-PL1 comes with a 12.3Mp Live MOS sensor. It also has an integrated flash. There’s a 2.7-inch LCD display to view or set the camera’s settings. This new micro four-thirds (MFT) camera from Olympus features an HD movie mode that comes with a one-touch video capture button. Videos can be recorded at a resolution of 1280 x 720p and at 30fps (frames per second). This camera also has six art filters for still photos and movies which include Pop Art and Sepia-toning filters. There’s the TruePic V image engine that ensures of shots being taken at up to ISO 3200. There’s also the i-Enhance feature that will adjust images for the better; the i-Auto mode that can adjust the settings of the camera to suit the shot that you are about to take and the e-Portrait that is said to make your subjects look better in the shots. There’s the ‘Live Guide’ feature that ensures full and easy accessibility to users including selecting their language and previewing their photos. The Olympus PEN E-PL1 has been promoted as a DSLR beginner’s camera minus the heavy weight.
