Olympus OM-D E-M1 Review

thinkdigit.com
4 December 2013
  • Summary: Olympus, for some awkward reason, chose an incredibly difficult naming scheme for its flagship mirrorless lineup, but moving past that, you realize there is something incredibly special about this camera. This isn't going to be your usual review, simply because using this camera wasn't the usual experience. It was special and thus, it commands a little something special. IF you're wondering what we're going on about, we recommend you read on.
  • Pros: Incredibly fast and accurate AF, Weather Sealed, Very useful EVF
  • Cons: High ISO performance can be dodgy, A little pricey

DP Review

  • Summary: In most respects the E-M1 does a good job bridging the gap between a traditional DSLR and a Micro Four Thirds camera. Its controls and customizability may overwhelm less hands-on users, but those who don't mind tinkering will love its flexibility. The improved autofocus tracking and performance with original Four Thirds lenses adds to the appeal of a camera with blazingly fast AF acquisition speeds with its native lenses.
  • Pros: Sturdy, weather-resistant body with lovely retro styling, Excellent image quality, Chromatic aberration corrected in-camera making JPEGs more usable, 2x2 interface puts more controls at your fingers, Impressive number of customizable controls, Bright, sharp electronic viewfinder, Reliable Wi-Fi connectivity for remote control and easy transfer of images to mobile device, Color Creator introduces more in-camera processing options, Neat in-camera time lapse creation, Ne...
  • Cons: Interface and controls can be overwhelming initially, In-camera Raw conversion interface is somewhat unintuitive, Auto focus with Four Thirds lenses is slow in dim conditions with tricky subjects, Only one SD card slot, Inconveniently-placed power switch, Disappointing video quality, Multi-screen live view interface looks very dated (e.g. can't combine electronic level and histogram)

Olympus OM-D E-M1 review - at the pinnacle of what a compact interchangeable lens camera can achieve

Macworld UK
19 December 2013
  • Excerpt: Hang on, you might be saying; whilst the 16.3 effective megapixel OM-D E-M1 may outwardly resemble a DSLR it’s not actually one in the strictest sense, on account of being a mirror-less model. But since Olympus hasn’t released a DSLR proper in years, this interchangeable lens camera is the closest we currently get from the brand – and a pro-level alternative at that – which is why we’re including it here.
  • Pros: Solid feel build quality with dust and splash proofed body, in-body image stabilisation, image quality right up there with an actual DSLR to most eyes
  • Cons: Smaller imaging sensor than an APS-C DSLR, button and control layout is busy and can feel a little cramped at times

  • Conclusion: The E-M1 sits at the top of the Olympus CSC range, and the specs and the price reflect this. It's a solidly-built camera and the retro-inspired design is blended well with the contemporary technology. The EVF is one of the best we've seen and the focusing system on the whole is remarkably fast and accurate. Advanced CSC users may find this camera meets all their requirements, though whether it can truly rival a D-SLR at the same price-point remains to be seen.

TEST: Olympus OM-D E-M1: Imponerende semiproff-alternativ

PC World
15 January 2014
  • Pros: Meget kompakt kvalitetskamera.
