Summary: I owned the previous model and I really liked it, but unfortunately it was stolen. So I decided to go for this newer model then. I really like the fact that it's a sturdy camera and also waterproof. HD video is awesome. The pictures are not great, but they usually come out OK. The biggest issue for me though is the slowliness. Sometimes I miss some great shots because the camera takes to long to start and between shots.
Summary: I bought this camera because we were going on vacation and I wanted something that could be used underwater at up to 20 or 30 feet, since we had a SNUBA diving trip planned. At first, I thought I was going to be like other reviewers who received a defective product. My camera would turn on, show the Olympus logo and then turn back off. I called Olympus customer service, and they said that I would need to send it back for repair.
Summary: This camera follows in the Tough Line but lacks an external charger. USB charging only which leaves the battery door and seals open while charging. Big risk to it's toughness. E-Force City sells an external charger and battery for under $12. One would have thought Olympus could have done this. http://www.amazon.com/eForCity-Battery-Charger-Compatible-8010/dp/B0062F3EZU/ref=sr_1_10?
Summary: i use it to take photos for my open water diver students. the photo quality is as others have reviewed, not good. once i accidentally brought it to 12m, lucky for me no leak. while about its durability, i've brought it for >30 dives now, i'll see how long will it last. rank it 4star as it's cheap (u get what u paid for) and it's convenient since it can go to 10m without a casing.
Excerpt: I bought this Olympus camera to replace a three year old Olympus camera that broke and was still under warranty. So clearly I'm already a little bit biased towards Olympus cameras. The main reason to buy this camera is if you want to be able to take it everywhere with you and not have to worry about not doing something so your camera breaks. So with that, mission accomplished. Great image quality, sometimes I even find myself using my Olympus over my DSLR camera.
Excerpt: I haveowned several underwater camera's. This is the best yet. I have made 16 x 20 enlargements that are bright sharp and clear. OK down to 33 feet. In low light conditions the flash is not powerful enough, but that is to be expected in a pocket camera. Also good for skiing and other conditions that might expose it to the forces of nature.
Excerpt: We bought this camera to replace our Tough-8000. While we were out of town the screen died and there was no time to get it repaired. When I spotted the Tough 8010 I was excited to see that it had HD video. I am just as happy with the functionality of this camera as I was with the Tough 8000. The underwater feature is fun for the pool with the kids. I haven't used it at the beach yet, but hope to soon. I LOVE the video quality. Detail. Detail. Detail.
