its great when it works, but getting to work isn't a reality

Summary: I purchased this camera because of the "tough" and underwater features for my first cruise. As soon as I got it, I installed everything the way I was supposed to. I tried some test shots and used it around the house and at different events (a parade, a school concert) and was happy with the quality of the pictures and was blown away at the software and its ability to tag faces and it seemed very accurate. Then, the problems began. IT wouldn't turn on.
Summary: The camera has a good look and feel, it's very rugged and the weight is just right. Now, what really disappointed me was the auto-focus feature. It doesn't perform well under low light, specially indoors. You have to make several attempts to get the camera to focus. Also the menus are not user friendly.
Summary: I took my camera for underwater pictures and I made sure I double locked the camera so no water gets inside and it was working for first few minutes and than it froze on me. Water still got inside the camera and it is NOT working anymore.
Summary: I'm no picture pro but I like to hike with my camera and have something that will fit in a pocket to take to parties and shows that won't weight me down but will take better pictures than my phone. this in not that camera. I had the older version of this camera and it worked great. not the thing for indoor pictures but it took a decent picture for what I used it for.
Summary: i owned the olympus stylus tough 1030sw for many years and absolutely LOVED it! it's still working great, but due to something that is my fault, it's no longer waterproof. for that reason, i ordered a second camera to have on-hand and figured why change brands/models when i was so pleased w/ my olympus 1030sw. so i ordered the olympus stylus tough 8010 and was excited to have the same camera as my previous one, but with upgraded features and quality.
Summary: Great camera when it works. But Olympus has terrible customer service so when the camera is damaged in the water just after the one year mark, it's apparently the customer's fault since the seal was "supposed" to be replaced. This camera has been damaged on way too many occasions, all when I'm in shallow waters. Such a shame, but I won't be purchasing from Olympus ever again.
Summary: After my toddler destroyed a Canon point and shoot, we decided that a tougher camera would be useful for our upcoming trip to Mongolia. We thought the Olympus was an obvious choice. Shock resistant, water resistant, and possibly toddler resistant. Before you buy this product, be warned that it is SLOW. Pro's Tough. We dropped it a number of times and the toddler threw it across the room. Survived. Water resistant. Washed off the sand, almost went into a toilet, survived.
Poor image quality, poor customer service, prone to break

Summary: I drag my stuff through rough conditions, and this camera seems to stand up to the challenge, while also taking excellent pictures. First off, this camera replaces an SW720, which I had for 3 or 4 years. My son took that one to Vietnam with him, so I got this one to replace it. The 720 had always taken really good pictures for me, and I'd drug it through rainstorms, sub-zero backcountry ski trips, and hauled it in my sweat-soaked cycling jersey across Kansas and Colorado...
