Excerpt: Everyone has an Olympus 1050 in my family. It's a basic modern camera and it is just very easy to use. Mine is black and to turn it on all you have to do is slide down the little panel in the front of the camera to reveal the lense. On the back it has a very big screen with all the buttons for your pictures. One thing I do not like about the camera is that it does not zoom in very far. My camera has done well underwater and takes great underwater pictures.
Summary: This was out third waterproof point and shoot camera. The first one (a Pentax Optio) is somewhere being scrubbed by the sand of Lake Michigan, and apparently some one wanted the second one (an Olympus Stylus SW720) more than we did. This one, (the Stylus SW1050) was also stolen along with my wife's purse. We seem to have bad luck in that respect with these cameras!
Pros: Good pics, easy menus, can go virtually anywhere I want to take it.
Cons: Sliding lens cover protects lens, but can cause issues if not kept perfectly clean at all times.
Summary: I really like this camera. When they say its durable and shockproof, they aren't lying. I have dropped this thing a lot already and there is yet to be a scratch on it. I took it under water and the pictures looks amazing and very clear. I would definitely suggest buying this camera if you have broken a bunch in the past like me.
Summary: This is the first digital camera I have purchased. I like to travel and wanted something durable that was in my price range, and this fit the bill. I was not aware of the sliding lens cover when I purchased it, but enjoy the feature that allows you to turn the camera on and off by simpling moving the cover up and down. I was slightly disappointed by the only 3x optical zoom and turned on the additional digital zoom after my first use.
Summary: The camera is very good quality. The pictures are beautiful, the camera functions are easy to learn, and the tap controls make life easy when its freezing outside. One thing I did not like is how long it takes for the camera to take a picture when the flash is on and the fact that the camera wants to use the flash ALL the time.. I have played with the settings and changed it to indoor lighting and still, flash comes on.
Summary: This is my second Olympus digital camera, the first being one from 5 years ago which still takes exceptional pictures even though it's been dropped from a step ladder and slid off the top of my car when I drove away not knowing it was on top. The construction of this camera is rugged and 'heavy', meaning that it is made to withstand a lot of obuse.
