Summary: I purchased this camera based on the performance of my previous camera which I loved, also an Olympus (Camedia D-580). Big difference. As reported in other earlier reviews, the pictures from the FE46 are mostly blurry and dark. It takes so long to automatically focus, that my intended shot of my young grandchildren is often lost. I have lots of photos of just after the main event, e.g. the blowing out of the candles on a birthday cake.
Summary: This sharp little blue camera is thin, easy to lose but not easy to use. I spent hours trying to set it up (you have to download the manual) and I could not transfer pix easily to my computer via USB port/camera connector and because the CARD is their own couldn't inssert it into camera to download the simple way. I was extremely frustrated over it and send it back.
Summary: I bought this camera thinking it would be a great camera being that it was an Olympus and their track record. At 12mp and 5x zoom I thought I was getting a steal, but I as definitely wrong on that one. The shots came out blurry even when I wasn't using the zoom feature. The pictures came out dark or overexposed. There was no happy medium. I had the inexpensive Kodak prior to this one and I'm going to buy it again.
Summary: I just bought this camera for my 12 year old for Christmas b/c she was always using mine. I thought that the Olympus would be a great choice since I loved my Olympus 35mm. With the price being reasonable, I didn't hesitate. I wish I did. My daughter liked the color of the camera, and that was about it. The pictures are blurry, dark, and take many seconds to get to memory. It is almost like the camera freezes for about 5-8 seconds before you can take another picture.
Summary: I purchased the olypus digital camera and the second time I tried to use it at an important day in my sons life it would not work. The lens would not go in. The camera was still under waranty and I was told by Olympus Technical Support to send the camera in with reciept and waranty card and I did so thinking it was going to be fixed. To my surprise I was notified that the repairs would cost $52.00 due to impact that I did not cause.
Don't buy an Olymous X-42 ---- picture quality is dreadful.

Excerpt: "...strongly advise against buying the Olympus X-42. We bought an X-42 to replace our 4 year old Samsung Digimax A6. The dinky little 12mp Olympus cost more than the 6mp Samsung did over 4 years ago but in comparison the picture quality is dreadful, the lens seems good (as one would expect from Olympus) but when you try and blow up & crop an image it appears grainy and lacks detail in fact my old 1.2mp mobile phone takes pictures that are as almost ...
Excerpt: "...any research whatsoever) was the Olympus X-42. I had previously owned an Olympus and I was more than happy with it. I knew the Olympus brand and knew the quality was good (or so I thought) so thought I was on to a winner. ==Olympus X-42== The Olympus X-42 digital camera is your typical point and shoot camera designed for the casual photographer. With the box stating “12 mega pixels, 5x optical zoom, 2.7” LCD monitor, intelligent auto, digital ...
