Summary: If you want every photo you take to look like it's from a 70's cookbook then by all means buy this camera. No matter how much I tweaked the settings everything comes out with a tint of brown/gold! boo.
Summary: Needing a shirt-pocketable camera with a wide-angle zoom, this seemed a logical choice despite the many lackluster reviews. After a series of test shots covering most of the camera's features, with and without flash, it's becomes clear that Olympus fell down on the job here. There must have been no quality control on this model or else they just didn't care. I would rate the final picture quality beside that of a 1960s Kodak Instamatic.
Summary: I'd been in the market for a new camera for a while and was so excited when I got the FE4000 for my birthday because I had read a lot of good reviews, but it was really disappointing. As for point and shoot, hopeless. For real, cant get a decent shot unless i spend a minute adjusting the settings. As for asking strangers to take pictures of your group, embarrassing. the picture is so grainy adn poorly lit that they have to take several pictures to get a decent one.
Summary: Purchased 12/09 as Christmas present. Moderate use, every few weeks, not daily. After 5 months the lens would not extend. Sent back for repair under warranty, I had to pay shipping. Camera came back after about 2 weeks, turned it on and lens would now extend but would not retract. Expressed my concern for sloppy repair via Olympus website and arranged for another repair. Again, I had to pay for shipping. Never received any apology or explanation from Olympus.
Summary: I may be a bit spoiled by my Canon S5IS camera (which is an in-between SLR and P&S camera)but my wife received this camera for Christmas. When she received it I was a bit hesitant because I was going to buy her a P&S for her birthday soon after Christmas and I did extensive research for smaller P&S cameras. First - I didn't come with a memory card...which I am not sure any cameras these days come with any but they are pretty cheap these days. So just an FYI..
Summary: I bought this camera because it looked pretty in the store catalog. However, I was an idiot and did not check to see how the image quality was of the pictures it takes. All of the pictures seem to make the background darker than it really is, and you cannot change it! The design is excellent; the screen of reasonable size. If only the image quality was better...
Summary: I bought this camera so that I could have a point-and-shoot and maybe take a few nice scenics if the chance arose. The portability of this camera is great... I can slip it into the back pocket of my jeans or into the PDA pocket of my purse easily. The design is nice although prone to dirty fingerprints. The screen is nice and clear and the menu is easy to navigate as well. As for the downsides, picture quality isn't what I expected from an Olympus.
Summary: I have never written a review about any item. I bought this for my daughter after much research. She is in college and takes many pictures. I wish I could send this camera back. I have tried everything to make the pictures so they are not blurry. When people move, they are blurry. Don't waste your money. They should take this off the market.
