A 12-megapixel ultra-compact

digitalcameraroundup.com
30 November 2011
  • Summary: While assessing or comparing the FE-290 is somewhat difficult, the similarities and differences between the lower end FE-280 and the higher-end FE-300 are very clear. The two cameras look almost identical, and they have pretty much the same features as well. The biggest difference is that the FE-280 is an 8-megapixel camera whereas the FE-300 packs 12. For that you pay an extra hundred dollars. The list price of the FE-300 is US$299 versus $199 for the FE-280.
  • Pros: 12-megapixel!, Bright hi-res 2.5-inch LCD with backlight boost, 640 x 480 movies at a full 30 fps, Advanced face detection mode, Digital image stabilization with gyro assist, 48MB onboard memory, PreSet Shooting Mode lets you select best setting, ISO up to 6400
  • Cons: Can't have sound and optical zoom together in movie mode, No voice recording mode, xD-Picture card harder to fnd and more expensive, We prefer zoom rocker to a zoom ring around the shutter

Olympus FE-300 Review

Digital Camera Review
11 November 2007
  • Excerpt: The FE-300 has a 1/1.72" CCD that can capture a total of 12 megapixels.  Full resolution images measure 4000x3000 pixels and file sizes of images taken in SHQ mode average just under 5MB a piece.  Images can also be captured at 2048x1536, 640x480, and 1920x1080.
  • Pros: Solid metal body with nice styling, Plenty of resolution in LCD, Good battery life, Easy to use
  • Cons: Average image quality, No "fun" features that appeal to the target market, like color filters, Noisy flash shots (especially when camera increases sensitivity to ISO800)

Olympus FE-300

Cameras

  • Conclusion: The Olympus FE-300 faces stiff competition from so many other pocket sized digital cameras. Picture quality is good, but I am concerned at the higher than expected price. I feel there is better value for money available elsewhere. If 12 megapixels is a must then this camera is worth adding to your shortlist.
  • Pros: Simple design - easy to use
  • Cons: It could be cheaper! - shutter lag - basic movie mode

Olympus FE-300

PhotographyBLOG
26 November 2007
  • Summary: Around £200 (less, with Internet deals) for a good looking, stylishly designed 12 megapixel zoom compact from a well-known brand looks like a great deal on paper – almost too good to be true. And so it proves in practice. Though the Olympus FE-300 is commendably easy to use – with that now familiar 'guide' function on the mode wheel offering novice users reference to what is, in effect, an in-camera manual that automatically makes function selections for you – and it's...

Olympus FE-300

Absolut Photo
1 July 2008

  • Pros: Face detection, Smile Shot
  • Cons: Assenza mirino
