  • Excerpt: The Olympus E400 offers SLR flexibility and power at a point-and-shoot cameras size. Who wouldn't want that? It is no surprise really, for it is not the first time that Olympus has set the SLR market on its ear with a completely revolutionary product, a product far removed from the "big 2" huge and bulky offerings. Olympus did it with the OM-1, which became the most copied camera design in history. What else could the other brands do (but copy)?

Olympus EVOLT E-400 review by pflugshaupt

  • Summary: I bought the camera as a body, together with the Olympus 14-54mm/F2.8-3.5 zoom instead of the kit lens(es). Basically, I wanted this lens and had to get a camera to go with it. The choice was between the E-500 and the E-400. In the end, I decided in favor of the E-400 instead of the E-500 for ergonomical reasons: It just felt better in my hands. Even though it's small, I like the way it handles.
  • Pros: small and light, image quality, ergonomics
  • Cons: control panel takes some getting used to

Better than the competition

Felix Satanis "Natalie S Schmidt", Amazon

  • Summary: This camera is a real hidden gem, not only that it is more compact than the comparable Canon or Nikon, but also the quality of the photos is astonishingly good for such a low priced DSLR. Definitely the right camera for first buyers of a DSLR camera, solid quality for little money and very user friendly, very clear manual and easy to use. Also much lighter than other DSLRs but still not without the feel of it being very high quality.

  • Excerpt: "...Pentax are eager rivals, but Olympus is determined not to get left behind. Their E series, and especially their latest models, are crossing new frontiers and making ground against the other firms. 2 General Features xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Let's take a minute to note what the E-400 has in common with the other SLRs that you might contemplate.! • Conclusion: A great fun camera which never ceases to amaze me! Great for bird photography and the Zuiko kit lenses are really crisp and clear. The price has dropped £100 to £699 with 2 kit lenses since Xmas. Focus is pretty quick and it's so easy to use, but also can use full manual controls and focus for more advanced photographers. I have moved up to the E400 from the Samsung Pro 815, so this is my first real SLR camera.
  • Pros: Small size and light, Zuiko standard lenses are amazing, pretty quick and easy to use, ideal for wildlife photography, takes all the hardship out of photography, can be used by all levels of photographers
  • Cons: Quite a lot of noise above ISO 400, Zuiko lenses are expensive, shutter noise is quite loud, if you have big hands you might have problems gripping the E400 as it's so small

Nice one

Digital Camera Magazine

  • Summary: Small, light easy to hold. I'm a big lad weighing at over 6ft 1in and 21st and despite the writeup that claims this camera is difficult to hold, I found no problems with it at all. Had some fantastic pictures from it and it has re-started my interest in photography. A good camera all round.

Olympus E-410

Digital Camera Magazine
12 May 2007
  • Summary: Have had my 410 now for about a month to get back into photography after a 20 year lapse. Am a devout Olympus user (Om2 sp in my past)as I find the quality of the products exceptional compared to the likes of Canon and Pentax. I have not been disappointed with the 410 as it gives me everything I need and more to take a great photo.

Magnificent Camera

Digital Camera Magazine
12 May 2007
  • Summary: It is great for amateur and professional photographers. Excellent picture quality and is also the smallest and lightest digital slr camera in the world. Also very affordable for people with a budget. By far the best camera I have used until this day.
