Summary: Okay, I've been burned. Bought this camera in Nov 2008 and took it snorkeling in early January 2010. Never went more than 4 feet underwater, and now the camera is hosed. OF course, it's out of warranty by one month. It's like they time these things. I'm going to try sending it in for repair, but I will NOT be taking it in the water again. What a joke of a camera.
Summary: I have sent my camera in TWICE for repair (which they said I didn't close the battery compartment and water got in) but I think that there is a problem somewhere else cause the first time they "replaced the battery lock" and the same thing happened again. I had the older model of this camera for 3 years without one problem.
Summary: Bought this product about one week before a ten day vacation in the British Virgin Islands. Tested the camera beforehand. Have shot exclusively in Digital SLR for last four years. Wanted a waterproof camera for snorkeling and the beach. The 10 megapixels was a plus. Minimal shutter-lag was also a plus. Here was the big downside . . . the LCD quit working after four days. We took the camera in the water each day.
Summary: I bought an Olympus 1030 SW in May, and first used it 6/28/08, with 75 photos taken on it total. I last used it 8/28/08 when snorkeling in Lake Tahoe (fresh water, depth of 5 ft). On 9/5/08 when I tried to use it again, it started, beeped 4 times, then shut down. Charger says the battery is fully charged, and the "View" mode works (where the camera also indicates a fully-charged battery), but cannot otherwise take photos or videos.
Summary: I bought the Olympus 1030SW hoping to finally have found the camera that I could take, and use, without worrying about it, anywhere I go. I thought I would love the camera; the onboard panoramic photo-combining feature is something I'll definitely get in my next purchase; the automated "scene" settings work great (especially for fireworks), but the POS IS NOT WATERPROOF. Well, it may be, if you're lucky...
Summary: I really liked the camera. It took great pictures both on land and under water. I followed all the proper maintenance (limiting use under water and soaking it in water after use), but the LCD display died after 8 months
Summary: I purchased this camera at a friend's recommendation in advance of a cruise vacation. I looked forward to using the waterproof feature. I carefully read the directions and followed them -- but when I used the camera underwater (not more than a foot underwater), the camera stopped working. I was extremely disappointed that a brand new camera was ruined, and that I did not then have a camera available for the rest of my trip.
