Summary: Okay, I've been burned. Bought this camera in Nov 2008 and took it snorkeling in early January 2010. Never went more than 4 feet underwater, and now the camera is hosed. OF course, it's out of warranty by one month. It's like they time these things. I'm going to try sending it in for repair, but I will NOT be taking it in the water again. What a joke of a camera.
Summary: I have sent my camera in TWICE for repair (which they said I didn't close the battery compartment and water got in) but I think that there is a problem somewhere else cause the first time they "replaced the battery lock" and the same thing happened again. I had the older model of this camera for 3 years without one problem.
Summary: I bought the Olympus 1030SW hoping to finally have found the camera that I could take, and use, without worrying about it, anywhere I go. I thought I would love the camera; the onboard panoramic photo-combining feature is something I'll definitely get in my next purchase; the automated "scene" settings work great (especially for fireworks), but the POS IS NOT WATERPROOF. Well, it may be, if you're lucky...
Summary: I really liked the camera. It took great pictures both on land and under water. I followed all the proper maintenance (limiting use under water and soaking it in water after use), but the LCD display died after 8 months
Summary: I purchased this camera at a friend's recommendation in advance of a cruise vacation. I looked forward to using the waterproof feature. I carefully read the directions and followed them -- but when I used the camera underwater (not more than a foot underwater), the camera stopped working. I was extremely disappointed that a brand new camera was ruined, and that I did not then have a camera available for the rest of my trip.
Summary: Same as most everyone else, after a week, my camera just stopped functioning, and looking inside I found water, corroded battery points, etc. I did recover the pictures and plenty had water spots (condensation) blocking the images--I'm bummed. If I were to buy one now, I'd only purchase at a bricks and mortar store of repute, because there is a good chance you'll be bringing it back.
Summary: After a few light uses I was surprised to get a CARD ERROR on an OLYMPUS card (which you have to use or some of the functions are not supported!) Called tech support and they said to purchase third party software!! Would not send NEW card. So lost 1/3 of our Hawaiian pictures. And there are whole websites about this problem. Now you know.
Summary: Do not buy this camera if you are planning to use it underwater. I used it for two days while snorkeling and the camera shut down and I was not able to use it for the rest of our vacation. The frame around the shutter fell off and all the black paint on the front of the camera came off. I sent it to Olympus and they sent it back painted with the metal frame glued back on, but they never addressed the waterproof issue.
