Excerpt: I got the Nikon D40 as a very generous gift after just mentioning that I'm interested in learning more about photography. Since then, I have learned to use some of its features but not all of them. It has been easy to use so far, and it has more options to use when I learn more about it. It would be nice if it had a digital viewfinder.
Excerpt: For the average consumer, this is the perfect camera to capture speacial events and everyday life. It may be a little big to fit into a small purse, but it is small and light enough to carry around while hiking and to a friends wedding. I had a friend that uses one as a back-up camera for photographing speacial events. You need to know that you can only use AF-S lenses, but Nikon is coming up with more lenses all the time.
Excerpt: I am still trying to figure out my camera however their are things I dont have that I know other cheaper cameras have. I do enjoy my camera but think I could have gotten more for my money! The software is limited. The common items are present, cropping, black and white ect. The camera itself is nice but the lense comes off too easy. I lost mine the first day I had brought it out. I think it is easier to use than other cameras.
Excerpt: This was my first digital camera. I'm very pleased with it. It is easy to use and the extras that came with it helped to learn the extra benefits of the camera. When set to take consecutive pictures it quickly takes and processes the pictures. When buying a lens with more zoom make sure you buy a VR lens. This helps with vibration.
Excerpt: very good start cameraTwo and a half years ago Nikon announced the six megapixel D70, their first affordable enthusiasts digital SLR, it proved to be a very popular camera and strong competitor to the Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel). Just fifteen months later Nikon revealed the D70s which was essentially the same camera with a some subtle tweaks (improved AF, wider flash coverage, higher capacity battery, larger LCD monitor).
Great camera, nice picture quality, lense broke in 2 years.

Excerpt: This is a great camera. It takes amazing pics for a 6.1 mp cam. My only beef is that it is about a year and a half old and the lense that came with it is broken. Need to see if Nikon will help me or not. I just figured with their reputation the camera would be better than that.
Excerpt: I bought the Nikon D40 for my husband so we cold take clearer pictures and better pictures and it does deliver that. it takes fast pictures for sports when needed and takes very clear pictures. the only thing that we can't figure out though is sometimes it won't take pictures but we think it ahs something to do with the flash and after turning it off and back on it takes pictures again. the pictures are great and it's an easy camera to use.
Excerpt: I have really enjoyed this camera the past year. It is my first SLR camera and I don't plan to upgrade soon. I think it has a really easy to understand interface that takes quality photos. The lack of digital viewfinder is hard to get used to, but I actually like it better than when I used the digital version. Reviewer is an employee or otherwise affiliated with the brand.
Excerpt: I have had my Nikon D40 (the D40x actually...same camera, more megapixels) for about 10 months now and am loving it! I am just an amateur photographer and this is my first SLR. I moved up from an Olympus digital Point and shoot. My main motivation for moving to an SLR was my frustration with the shutter delay with my P&S. I would love to learn more about photography also and get into shooting in manual.
