Excerpt: This camera is a great for a beginner photographer, I had this Camera since 2008 , and it has all the basic functions to take pictures. I enjoy using this camera and then I upgraded it since i became more professional.
Excerpt: I have had my Nikon D40 now for about four years and I love it! It was the very basic DSLR you could get in Nikon and still pay a great price on it. Years later, it has gone WAY down on price because there are tons of new models of Nikons. I like it because it is not too big and it is a good camera for amateurs whether you are just a hobbyist or wanting to better your professional photgraphy skills.
Summary: This is good camera for a beginner. It's too light for me, but maybe good for someone just starting out or who just wants a better snap shot than a compact digital. It's decent for snap shots or just playing around, but I would not recommend it for someone who is serious about photography.
Summary: This camera was a great price with AoM back in December 2007. We used the camera for family photos, vacations, etc. It takes awesome pictures. Sadly, after 16 months of light use and being handled with "kid gloves," the entire flash assembly quit working. The camera assembly is now being repaired by a Nikon authorized fcaility at the tune of $240. Of course, none of this is covered since the Nikon warranty expired 4 months ago.
Summary: Shutter release is not on top of the camera where the forefinger naturally rests. LCD is much too big, left fingers cover it, all info is in the viewfinder anyway. Body and lens are all plastic, much too light for stability, anti-vibe software is a poor substitute for physical vibration absorbtion. Autofocus is fast, color accuracy is excellent.
